"Mistystar was a strong leader, too. Her death has been hard on all of us, and any Clan could find themselves in the same position. You would do well to remember that, Lightleap." |

Chapter description[]
- As Sunbeam and Lightleap cross into RiverClan territory, Lightleap declares her hunger and decides to hunt, believing that they are entitled to RiverClan's prey. While Lightleap goes after a rabbit, Sunbeam hunts down a vole, only to be confronted by a RiverClan patrol, who insists that the vole is theirs. Lightleap appears and confronts Duskfur, claiming that RiverClan's prey belongs to ShadowClan. Duskfur orders them to come back to RiverClan camp. In camp, Duskfur explains the situation to Icewing, and RiverClan and ShadowClan argue until Icewing stops them, pointing out that they cannot expect ShadowClan not to eat. Mothwing argues that RiverClan can feed ShadowClan during their stay, and Icewing concludes that ShadowClan will be permitted to hunt, but they must bring back prey to RiverClan. Cloverfoot relieves Stonewing and Hopwhisker and asks to speak with Sunbeam and Lightleap, but not before thanking Icewing, who says that ShadowClan and RiverClan will continue to argue. Lightleap scorns them for not wanting ShadowClan's help, but Icewing reminds her that any other Clan could end up in a similar position.
- Two days later, Sunbeam and Lightleap are returning home, and Sunbeam tries to discuss Frostpaw becoming a warrior apprentice, but Lightleap is dismissive. Sunbeam reflects on the conflict between ShadowClan and RiverClan, recalling a fight between Owlnose and Lizardtail, as well as what Cloverfoot had told them about RiverClan cats making false accusations against her and leaving crow-food in her nest. Sunbeam believes that ShadowClan taking charge has only made everything worse. She mentions her eagerness to see Nightheart, and Lightleap apologizes for interfering in Sunbeam's friendship with Blazefire. Sunbeam asks how Lightleap knew that she wanted Blazefire, and Lightleap explains that she had known because she lost Sunbeam for it. Sunbeam finds this unhelpful, and she wonders to Lightleap about what will happen if she does not want Nightheart after all.
