Chapter description[]
- Berryheart struggles against Darktail, weakening. As she sinks beneath the surface of lake, she despairs, remembering how she joined the persuasive rogue and only later realized his plan to forcefully take over the Clans. She resolves to survive and fix her mistake, and Berryheart goes limp until Darktail pushes her away. Uncertain if she is far enough away but unable to wait, the black-and-white she-cat swims to the surface. Berryheart no longer hears or sees Darktail, and her strength drains as she reaches the shore, where she sees RiverClan territory. Berryheart collapses in the undergrowth, wanting to go back to ShadowClan, but knowing that there is no ShadowClan left. She promises herself that, if she is accepted back, she will give everything to ShadowClan and never again trust an outsider.
