Thunder Rising[]

"Look! There's Dart..and Shine..."

Ripple and Arc notice Shine, Flutter, and Dart being taken away in dens of shiny mesh by Twolegs, and Ripple is shocked. Arc shoves Ripple forward, saying there is nothing they can do to help the trapped cats, and the two continue to leave, hearing the mewing and yowling of the cats they left behind.

"Dart escaped. He left Shine behind. But Shine's happy. [She] wanted to be a kittypet."

As monsters destroy their home, Shine, Dart, and Flutter freeze as they approach. Twolegs from behind capture the three cats, and Ripple longs to help his friends but Arc insists it is too dangerous. As Ripple is swept away down the river and settles near an island, he longs to find a way to return to the park to save his friends. Seasons later, Arc tells Riverstar that Shine willingly became a kittypet while Dart eventually escaped.
