Mapleshade's Vengeance

Mapleshade watches as Appledusk trains his apprentice, Perchpaw. Reedshine, Appledusk's mate, arrives and offers to pounce to show how it's done. Appledusk mews she's not doing anything, and reminds her to think of their kits. Reedshine looks at her belly that's barely swollen from her unborn kits. She complains she's not sick. Appledusk meows he knows she's not, but their kits are too precious to risk Perchpaw injuring her by mistake. Mapleshade wonders how Reedshine could be expecting kits already.

After Mapleshade confronts Appledusk, Reedshine arrives, wondering what's going on. Mapleshade hurls herself at her, screeching that she and her kits must die. Appledusk jumps in the way and takes the blow, protecting Reedshine and their unborn kits. Reedshine tells Mapleshade that Appledusk will live on in their kits, and in their kits and so on. Mapleshade decides to watch over all her kin and punish each one for what she did. She thinks later that Appledusk's kin will mourn the day he destroyed her life.
