Chapter Summary

Ivypool's PoV

Ivypool wakes up and finds herself in the Dark Forest. Hawkfrost tells the trainees they won't be fighting one-on-one in battle, so he tells them to attack him all at once. They do, and Hawkfrost defeats all of them. He shows them how to do it slowly, so they can get the hang of it. As Ivypool looks around, she realizes there were more Clan cats in the Dark Forest at one time than before. She notices all the young cats were there for the same reason: to train to be a better warriors than their Clans could make them, to be the best they could at fighting and defending their homes.
Hawkfrost makes Ivypool be the target of the practice attack. Breezepelt misses, as she batters Tigerheart's belly, she notices that she was fighting for her life. Brokenstar appears and all the cats get off of Ivypool. Brokenstar introduces Blossomfall, who would be training in the Dark Forest too. When Ratscar is about to kill Blossomfall, she jumps on him and rolls him away from her Clanmate. Brokenstar orders them to stop, and asks what gives her the right to intervene. She tells him a new apprentice shouldn't be lost on her first visit, and she is dismissed.
Ivypool finds Antpelt, and is surprised to hear that he had died. He tells her that the Dark Forest was where he wanted to be, his home. Hawkfrost calls Ivypool over and tells her to teach Hollowpaw a move or two. She teaches him some moves that show how to defeat a fox or badger. She overhears that everyone had done well, especially Blossomfall. Blossomfall eats up his praise, making Ivypool's heart sink.
