Sharpclaw asks Leafstar how they are going to find the Twoleg kit's family. Leafstar appreciates his cooperation and asks Billystorm and Snookpaw if they know where she came from. Snookpaw admits that her smell is familiar and knows a Twoleg nest that smells just like it. Leafstar asks if the apprentice could lead them there. He agrees and the leader heads back to camp to organize. Cherrytail and Sparrowpelt update the Clan as she arrives. Fallowfern'skits chime that they want to join the patrol but are quickly shut down by their mother. Leafstar quickly sets up a patrol, Billystorm included. She tells Clovertail to help Echosong take care of the Twoleg and the group of cats head off.
Leafstar offers the lead to Snookpaw. Leafstar wonders about Sharpclaw's recent whereabouts and attempts to look at the ginger-and-white tom, who is adamant on not meeting her gaze. The patrol carefully and quickly moves across the Thunderpath. Leafstar wonders about her deputy's familiarity with the Thunderpath. Snookpaw tells the group that the nest is up ahead. The young tom leads them straight to a dog, and he admits that he lost his way since the Thunderpath. The patrol heads back to the black surface. Snookpaw remembers where he left off but continues to get lost around the big red dens. Billystorm reminds him to close his eyes and think, and the apprentice gains the confidence to find the Twoleg kit's den.
The patrol hears the worried Twolegs looking for their kit. Snookpaw goes up to the pair and tries to grab their attention, however, one of the Twolegs throws a flowerpot at the apprentice. The group of cats decide to head back to camp. Once the patrol arrives at the gorge, her Clanmates believe that the kit isn't their responsibility. Leafstar feels worried for the young Twoleg and announces that she's going to visit Echosong. Leafstar informs her medicine cat of the situation. Echosong tells her that she tried using poultice on the kit but was unsuccessful because of the lack of fur. Leafstar imagines how she would feel with her own kits in the same situation. She runs back to the gorge and announces that the Clan won't give up on the Twoleg kit. They question the leader's judgement, but Leafstar starts strategizing a plan.
