"You've only been a warrior for a few days. You're still finding your way. Moving to another Clan or becoming a loner won't change who you are. Have faith. StarClan will guide you just as they guided me. You'll find your place in ThunderClan soon, and when you do, you'll understand that this is the only Clan for you. I'm sure you belong here." |

Chapter description[]
- Nightheart nurses a squirrel bite, recalling Thriftear and Flipclaw's teasing and feeling resentment over their lack of respect. On the way to the medicine den, he notices Bramblestar dozing and does not believe his Clanmates' claims that their leader is having trouble sleeping. Just then, Gullswoop and Flaxfoot arrive to inform ThunderClan that Tigerstar has asked for the medicine cats to meet at the Moonpool to address the catmint shortage. When the two ShadowClan warriors leave, Jayfeather and Nightheart head into the medicine den. Jayfeather tells Alderheart about Tigerstar's request, and Brightheart suggests that the other Clans may be exaggerating. As Nightheart, Jayfeather, and Brightheart debate about what warriors care for, Nightheart argues that uniqueness is important. Brightheart thinks that looking up to strong ancestors is good, and Nightheart suggests that he belongs to another Clan or should be a loner. Alderheart tells him to have faith that StarClan will guide him.
- The medicine cats return from the Moonpool, and as Squirrelflight greets them, Bramblestar does not. Nightheart eavesdrops, and Jayfeather and Alderheart report that the Clans are all lacking catmint, and that Rowankit is ill. Puddleshine has suggested that the Clans send a patrol to find catmint, to which Squirrelflight agrees. Alderheart says that Frecklewish knows a Twolegplace that has it. He offers to go, and Jayfeather recommends that he take Nightheart along to prove himself; to Nightheart's delight, Squirrelflight agrees. Jayfeather and Alderheart then discuss Mothwing and Frostpaw, who arrived at the Moonpool before the others and did not leave with them, suggesting that they were doing something there. As the cats separate, Squirrelflight notices Nightheart, but she leaves him be.
