Smokehaze is a gray she-cat.[2]
Smokehaze was a WindClan warrior under Harestar's leadership in the lake territories. She was born to Breezepelt and Heathertail as Smokekit alongside her sister, Brindlekit. She became an apprentice as Smokepaw, mentored by Emberfoot. She earned her warrior name of Smokehaze, and was given her younger sister, Woodsong, as an apprentice. When Bramblestar began displaying unusual and violent behavior, Smokehaze joined the secret rebel group. During a major battle instigated by the impostor, Smokehaze was killed and became a ghost, and was later imprisoned in the Dark Forest by Ashfur. Smokehaze was forced to fight for Ashfur, but after the dark warrior's death, Smokehaze went to StarClan.

The Apprentice's Quest[]
- Smokekit is the daughter of Breezepelt and Heathertail alongside her sister, Brindlekit.
Shattered Sky[]
- Smokepaw is now an apprentice, with Emberfoot as her mentor. She is on Crowfeather's patrol with Emberfoot and Larkwing, when they encounter a ThunderClan patrol on their land.
Darkest Night[]
- Smokepaw, along with her denmates, Fernpaw and Brindlepaw, are present at a Gathering. Alderheart notes how quiet and shy Smokepaw is, saying that usually the apprentices are bouncy and wanting to chat with the other apprentices. This time, however, Smokepaw stays close to her mentor and doesn't say anything.
River of Fire[]
- When Twigpaw falls into the WindClan border stream, she is confronted by a WindClan hunting patrol consisting of Featherpelt, Emberfoot, and Smokepaw. They are hostile, and Twigpaw quickly explains what happened. Featherpelt insists that they take Twigpaw and Finpaw back to camp, and orders Smokepaw to go and tell Harestar what happened. At a Gathering, Harestar reports that both Smokehaze and her sister Brindlewing have earned their warrior names. The Clan cats present cheer for their names as Leafstar steps up to speak.
In The Broken Code arc[]
The Silent Thaw[]
- She has become a mentor to her younger sister, Woodpaw. She is spotted by Rootpaw at the secret meeting between cats suspicious over Bramblestar's actions, with her Clanmates Breezepelt and Slightfoot, along with the RiverClan cat Dappletuft.
Veil of Shadows[]
- Smokehaze participates in the battle between the Clans, and dies. Shadowsight watches WindClan warriors carry her body for burial. At the following Gathering, Rootspring spots those who died in the battle as ghosts, unable to reach StarClan.
The Place of No Stars[]
- Ashfur imprisons Smokehaze's spirit on an island in the Dark Forest, using his mind to manipulate her into fulfilling his plans to destroy the living Clans, StarClan, and the Dark Forest. Rootspring, Snowtuft, and Bramblestar storm the island to rescue Squirrelflight and Bramblestar's body.
A Light in the Mist[]
- Still under Ashfur's control, Ashfur uses Smokehaze as a pawn in the final battle and fights Firestar. After Ashfur's defeat, Smokehaze steps away from the battle and realizes who her true enemy is. Her spirit joins StarClan, and Bramblestar honors her name in the Gathering as one of the cats tricked by the impostor.

Onestar's Confession[]
- Smokekit goes missing, and her father, Breezepelt, is frantic. Crowfeather says they scented rouges, and all cats assume someone must've stolen her. They find her near the stream, and Breezepelt wakes her. She explains she heard a cat in pain and thought she could help them, but regrets this, saying she could've woken up an older cat. She tells the rescue patrol how she reached the top of the slope and something clamped its mouth around her neck and squeezed, she tried to escape but was unsuccessful, and describes a flash of white fur, then darkness. Sedgewhisker thinks a fox may have done it, while Onestar believes Darktail is the culprit. Cats discuss who her attacker is; stoats or rogues is their theory, and Onestar and Crowfeather investigate. Smokekit and the patrol return to camp, where Kestrelflight treats her wounds. She complains, saying she wants to play with Brindlekit, specifically a game she made up where rogues break into the camp and steal a kit. Onestar is horrified, and won't allow the kits to play it. Onestar insists to protect Smokekit, having her sleep in his den, and Smokekit is excited to boast to her littermate about this.
