— Snaketooth about Fringewhisker bringing whitecough to ShadowClan in Sky, chapter 10 |
Snaketooth is a honey-brown[10] tabby she-cat.[11]
Snaketooth is a ShadowClan warrior under Tigerstar's leadership in the lake territories and briefly a member of SkyClan under Leafstar. Snakekit was born during Rowanstar's reign to Stonewing and Grassheart alongside her littermates, Flowerkit and Whorlkit. She became an apprentice as Snakepaw mentored by Tawnypelt and earned her warrior name of Snaketooth. Soon after, she mentored Sunbeam. Snaketooth disagreed with punishing ShadowClan codebreakers, and due to her distrust of SkyClan she was critical of changes made to the warrior code that allowed SkyClan cats to join ShadowClan.
History[]
In the A Vision of Shadows arc[]
Thunder and Shadow[]
- Twigpaw: "Hi, Grassheart. How's Snakekit?"
- Grassheart: "I've never seen her this ill."
- Thunder and Shadow, chapter 19
- Tawnypelt suggests that Violetkit can help entertain Grassheart's kits if she is bored, but Violetkit replies that Pinenose won't let her. Tawnypelt retorts that she played with all her denmates as a kit. As Violetkit enters the nursery, she sees Grassheart's kits squirming and mewling in their nest while their mother dozes. Violetkit thinks that they would never know what it was like to lose a mother and a sister. Later, Snakekit and her siblings rest beside their mother after a morning spent playing with moss-ball and cat-and-mouse games with Violetkit. Violetkit thinks that Tawnypelt must have kept her word and spoken to Grassheart, because she asked her to as soon as Violetkit had woken up that morning. When a storm rolls in and the kits must shelter in the nursery, Violetkit loathes that she isn't allowed to make a noise when Snakekit and her siblings are asleep.
- Violetpaw worries what Darktail's threat to ShadowClan will mean for Snakekit and her siblings. When Violetpaw rejoins ShadowClan, she glances toward the nursery hoping to catch a glimpse of Snakekit, Flowerkit, and Whorlkit, and wonders if they have become apprentices because the nursery is silent. She is relieved that they haven't because she has the apprentices' den to herself.
- Snakekit falls ill during the yellowcough plague. When Whorlkit and Flowerkit visit the apprentices' den, Whorlkit complains that they are bored and Flowerkit sadly mews that Grassheart spends all her time with Snakekit, whimpering that she hopes she will get better in time for their apprentice ceremony. In the medicine den, Grassheart gazes anxiously at Snakekit squirming on the damp bracken. Violetpaw asks how Snakekit is and Grassheart answers that she hasn't ever seen her this ill. Snakekit moans and Grassheart runs a soothing paw along her daughter's flank. Violetpaw and Twigpaw spend the day helping the sick cats. The next day, Puddleshine leans over Snakekit and gently dabs green pulp around her jaws. During a medicine cat meeting, he mentions that Snakekit is just fur and bones.
- Snakepaw had quickly recovered from yellowcough after ShadowClan obtained lungwort, and Rowanstar has given Snakepaw, Flowerpaw, and Whorlpaw their apprentice names. She lies in a strip of sunshine while her siblings practice stalking in the long grass behind her.
Darkest Night[]
- During the Gathering, Snakepaw sits quietly sitting beside her mentor, Tawnypelt. At another Gathering, Snakepaw and her littermates look shocked when Rowanstar rescinds his leadership and gives ShadowClan's territory to SkyClan. She backs away in fear when the ShadowClan cats bicker about Rowanstar's weak leadership.
- Snakepaw helps build new nests when ShadowClan move into SkyClan's camp. Violetpaw is surprised to see them there when she returns from her journey, not knowing that the two Clans have merged. Every cat falls silent except for Snakepaw, who keeps chattering when Hawkwing asks what happened on Violetpaw's mission. Snakepaw says that she hopes Finpaw brings back a lot of ferns for building is about to continue, but notices that she's the only cat talking and awkwardly cuts off.
River of Fire[]
- During a storm, the apprentices' den is smashed by a falling tree. Leafstar calls Snakepaw's name and orders all the apprentices to report to her. Each of the apprentices escape safely and Leafstar tells them that they'll sleep with the warriors tonight.
The Raging Storm[]
- Snaketooth: "Isn't the storm keeping you busy? We thought you'd be preparing for a flood."
- Blazepaw: "Perhaps the sun is shining in ThunderClan territory."
- The Raging Storm, chapter 22
- When a great storm settles over the Clans, Snaketooth huddles outside the nursery with her mother, Grassheart. Tigerstar assigns them to escort Alderheart back to ThunderClan, believing Puddleshine no longer needs treatment for his poisoning. As they depart, Grassheart asks what made Tigerstar so angry with him and Snaketooth adds that she thought he was going to claw Alderheart's pelt off. However, Alderheart replies that is was nothing.
- Snaketooth, Strikestone, and Blazepaw confront a ThunderClan patrol at the ShadowClan border after SkyClan leave the lake territories. She asks Bramblestar what they are doing there, to which the ThunderClan leader responds that he wants to speak to Tigerstar. Snaketooth retorts that she thought the storm would be keeping ThunderClan busy. The ShadowClan cats permit ThunderClan entry, and Snaketooth adds that they are busy hunting all the prey in the land SkyClan left them. When Alderheart asks why she isn't worried about SkyClan, Snaketooth replies that ShadowClan wanted them gone.
In The Broken Code arc[]
Lost Stars[]
- Her apprentice, Sunpaw, is now a warrior. Snaketooth lets out a faint hiss upon seeing Shadowpaw and pointedly turns away, to which Shadowpaw notes the hostility of his Clanmates after he accidentally causes Bramblestar's death. Later, a group of ThunderClan cats arrive in ShadowClan to announce that Shadowpaw's treatment actually worked. Snaketooth mews that they are really lucky that StarClan has chosen one cat to receive their messages and that he's from ShadowClan. Shadowpaw is wryly amused with how quickly Snaketooth's opinion has changed.
The Silent Thaw[]

In the A Starless Clan arc[]
River[]
- Sunbeam: "Be honest with me. Has Blazefire been spending a lot of time with Lightleap?"
- Whorlpelt: "Well—okay—sure, sometimes."
- River, page 159
Sky[]
- Snaketooth: "We need catmint. Rowankit has greencough and our supply has run low."
- Frostpaw: "Why don’t you gather more? It isn’t leaf-bare yet."
- Sky, chapter 4
- When the RiverClan cats finally yield, Snaketooth and Sunbeam approach Frostpaw outside the RiverClan medicine den, and when Frostpaw asks why ShadowClan can't find their own catmint, Snaketooth retorts that they wouldn't have come if they could. Mothwing arrives in camp and demands to know what ShadowClan are doing there, staring Snaketooth down. Snaketooth bodly explains that they need catmint for Rowankit's greencough. She is irritated when Mothwing responds that they have none. Snaketooth suggests the ShadowClan cats search RiverClan territory, but though her offer is denied, she doesn't argue. Sunbeam tells her that Whorlpelt and Flaxfoot may have been able to get catmint from WindClan and Snaketooth responds that she hopes so. Mallownose tells Snaketooth to leave, to which Snaketooth asks if RiverClan will inform them if they find the catmint. Mallownose agrees and says they will escort ShadowClan to the border, but Snaketooth insists that they know the way home.
- After Rowankit's vigil, she, Snowbird, Whorlpelt, Yarrowleaf, Stonewing, and Grassheart, and Sunbeam attend Berryheart's secret meeting to discuss going against Tigerstar due to his support of Clan changing. When they suggest Fringewhisker brought whitecough from SkyClan, Snaketooth agrees that it's possible she brought it on purpose and further suggests that she already acted in secret by meeting Spireclaw. Moreover, Fringewhisker may have tricked him into falling in love with her so she could enter ShadowClan. She eyes Sunbeam sharply when Sunbeam insists it's clear their love is genuine and asserts that Leafstar may have planned it as SkyClan has much to gain from weakening the other Clans. Sunbeam reminds her that SkyClan sent cats on the journey to find catmint but Snaketooth responds that this was clearly to cover their tracks
Shadow[]
- Lightleap mentions how she, Snaketooth, and Pouncestep devised a plan to wake Blazefire to end his obnoxious snoring. Snaketooth and Pouncestep leapt onto the sleeping Blazefire while Lightleap yowled that badgers were in the camp.
Thunder[]
- Snaketooth and Stonewing eye Tigerstar warily when Berryheart announces she has ShadowClan's support to oust Tigerstar from leadership.
In the Super Editions[]
Tigerheart's Shadow[]
- "We were lucky to find that. We’d have nothing if Snakepaw hadn’t thought of stalking the beech patch."
- ―Tigerheart praising Snakepaw's wit Tigerheart's Shadow, chapter 7
- Snakepaw is present when Plumwillow crosses the border to kill a rabbit. Snakepaw reminds Tigerheart that prey belongs to the Clan where it was caught but Tigerheart remains firm with his decision to let Plumwillow keep the rabbit. Snakepaw glances at Strikestone, who shrugs, stating that Tigerheart was the deputy. Afterward, Strikestone noses her back into the bramble bush. When Juniperclaw informs Rowanstar of Tigerheart's action, Snakepaw and Flowerpaw go with the patrol to get the rabbit back, with Snakepaw sticking close to Strikestone. After Rowanstar and Leafstar decide that ShadowClan will get the next rabbit caught, Snakepaw and Flowerpaw follow Grassheart, Snowbird, Juniperclaw, and Strikestone back to camp.
- During Tigerheart's dream when SkyClan fights against the ShadowClan cats, he sees Whorlpaw wailing over Snakepaw's battered body.
Squirrelflight's Hope[]
- She is now mentoring Sunpaw. Snaketooth is on a patrol with Snowbird and Cinnamontail when they come across Squirrelflight and her patrol asking to speak with Puddleshine about Larksong's sickness. Snaketooth grunts that Tigerstar was out hunting, but they agree to take them to Cloverfoot. She participates in the battle against the Sisters and fights against Flurry.
