"Loyalty is proved by what we do, not where we come from!"
— Sorreltail in The Sight, page 222

Sorreltail is a dappled, tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat with amber eyes,[4] a white chest and paws.[5]

History

In the Super Edition Series

Firestar's Quest

Sorrelpaw is an apprentice, and her mentor is Sandstorm.
In Cinderpelt's den, she is complaining about a thorn in her front paw. Cinderpelt scolds her for making a fuss. She also tells Firestar that Sandstorm has her paws full with her.
When her mother, Willowpelt, is killed in a badger attack, Sorrelpaw is very depressed, along with her two brothers, Sootpaw and Rainpaw. Cinderpelt takes care of the three of them, but eventually lets them stay with Ferncloud and Brightheart in the nursery instead; since they were so newly apprenticed, Cinderpelt throught it wouldn't hurt them to be treated like kits for a little while.
When Sandstorm leaves to find SkyClan with Firestar, Dustpelt becomes Sorrelpaw's temporary mentor, and she is shown bouncing eagerly around him. He tells Sandstorm that he will take care of her apprentice, teasingly saying that she has been too lenient with her. Sorrelpaw replies that Sandstorm is a wonderful mentor.

In the Original Series

Rising Storm

Sorrelkit and her siblings, Rainkit and Sootkit, are born to Willowpelt and Whitestorm, although none of their names are mentioned in this book. Sandstorm mistakenly says that there are two she-cats and one tom in the litter, even though Rainkit and Sootkit are both toms and Sorrelkit is the only she-cat.
Sorrelkit is seen tumbling over her mother's pelt when Fireheart takes her some water-soaked moss.
During the fire, Mousefur, Fireheart, and Longtail all help Willowpelt get her kits out of the camp and across the river into RiverClan territory to safety.
After they reach the RiverClan camp, she and her brothers are seen wailing because of the smoke they had breathed in was hurting their throats. Mudfur gives them some honey to soothe them. They drink in the honey tentatively at first, unsure of what it is, but after their first taste of it, they lap it up more enthusiastically.

A Dangerous Path

She and her brothers are seen with Willowpelt outside the nursery, watching the older kits play. When a hawk threatens ThunderClan's camp, Willowpelt and Goldenflower push their kits into the nursery to protect them, but Snowkit, Speckletail's son, is snatched by the hawk, and is never seen again.
Later, Sorrelkit and her brothers are seen playing with Bramblekit and Tawnykit. Fireheart watches the kits play. Bramblekit bowls over Sorrelkit, but she springs up and hurls herself joyfully back at him.

The Darkest Hour

Sorrelkit is said to be the most adventurous of Willowpelt's litter. She follows Darkstripe out of the camp and eavesdrops on him while he talks to Blackfoot of ShadowClan on ThunderClan territory. When Darkstripe finds out that she overheard them, he is terrified that Sorrelkit might tell the Clan she had seen him talking to the ShadowClan cat. Instead, he tries to kill her by feeding her deathberries, telling her they were a "special treat." Sorrelkit, not knowing what the berries really were, eats them, and collapses. Graystripe sees all of this, and attacks Darkstripe.
Bramblepaw is told by Firestar to get Cinderpelt, and she comes with yarrow and is able to save Sorrelkit's life. Brackenfur is shown to be feeling very worried about her, because he was supposed to be looking after Darkstripe. After Sorrelkit regains consciousness, she tells Firestar the whole story, and Darkstripe is exiled.
Later, before the battle with BloodClan, Sandstorm is shown teaching Sorrelkit and her brothers some fighting techniques in case the camp gets attacked. After the training, she and her brothers fight over who should be Sandstorm's apprentice when they turn six moons old. Sandstorm then hints at Firestar that she'd like to mentor her. After that, Firestar secretly promises that Sandstorm will mentor Sorrelkit.

In the New Prophecy Series

Midnight

Sorrelpaw is first seen when she jumps on Brambleclaw near the beginning of the book. She happily announces to him that her warrior ceremony was that day. He teases her saying that she needs to act like a warrior, not a kit. Sorrelpaw replies that she has waited long enough for this. It is revealed that during her apprenticeship, she was struck by a monster on the Thunderpath, and she was stuck in Cinderpelt's den for three moons, which delayed her warrior ceremony. Her brothers, Rainpaw and Sootpaw, got their warrior names, Rainwhisker and Sootfur, while she was recovering.
She is later seen during her warrior ceremony. It is noted that she walks out with her mentor, Sandstorm, both of them looking proud and excited. Sandstorm promises Firestar that Sorrelpaw is a warrior the Clan can be proud of, and Firestar gives Sorrelpaw the warrior name, Sorreltail.
When Leafpaw goes over to the RiverClan border to gather celadine, she asks Sorreltail to accompany her. She happily agrees and the two of them set off. It is noted that she jumps around the whole time, and her injury is obviously not bothering her. While they are there, they notice that WindClan is still drinking from the river and Sorreltail says that they shouldn't be. They talk to Mistyfoot and learn that RiverClan has lost cats as well. When Sorreltail and Leafpaw return to camp they tell Firestar and Graystripe about the news.

Moonrise

Sorreltail is listed with her apprentice name, Sorrelpaw, in the allegiances even though she became a warrior in the previous book.
Sorreltail is first seen in the medicine den with Leafpaw. Leafpaw takes a tick off Sorreltail with mouse bile. After they are done, they go out into the clearing and Firestar calls a Clan meeting. Seeing the expression on Leafpaw's face, Sorreltail asks if she knows what he is going to stay, and Leafpaw says she will find out soon enough. Firestar then tells the Clan that Twolegs have been destroying the forest and he is not sure what to do. Sorreltail then turns to Leafpaw and Leafpaw can see her eyes are filled with fear and uncertainy.
Later, she travels to WindClan with Leafpaw. At first, she is scared of going into WindClan territory, but she soon agrees to go. When they get to WindClan territory, they see a long stretch of scarred land with no grass, and a monster tearing up more land. While they are watching, two WindClan warriors, Tornear and Mudclaw, demand to know what they are doing on WindClan territory. Leafpaw tries to explain but they won't listen and they attack. Outnumbered, Leafpaw and Sorreltail flee back across the border but, go into RiverClan territory. Mothwing then saves them and sends the WindClan warriors away. They thank her, and start to leave, but Mothwing asks them to stay. Sorreltail then asks if Mothwing is always careless about the warrior code, and wonders if it was because Mothwing's mother was a rogue, much to Leafpaw's distress and anger.
Later, Sorreltail goes out with Leafpaw to investigate the Twolegs. They follow the scent of Twolegs and it leads them to an area with many Twoleg monsters. Leafpaw goes closer to the monster, and is picked up by a Twoleg and put inside a monster. The last that is seen of Sorreltail is with a look of horror across her face, and then the door closes, trapping Leafpaw in it. Sorreltail can do nothing, and goes back to report what had happened.

Dawn

When Brambleclaw, Squirrelpaw, and Stormfur return from the Sun-Drown Place, Sorreltail and Brackenfur are the first cats to greet them at Sunningrocks. Sorreltail is shown to be feeling very guilty and depressed about not being able to save Leafpaw from the Twolegs.
When Leafpaw thinks about Hawkfrost, she remembers when he almost dragged Sorreltail back to RiverClan camp just because she mistakingly crossed the border chasing prey. Mothwing had luckily persuaded Hawkfrost to let Sorreltail go.
Sorreltail helps Squirrelpaw save Leafpaw as well as the other Clan cats, rogues, and kittypets from the Twolegs. Sorreltail wonders what the Twolegs are going to do to Graystripe after they drove away with him stuck in their monster. She tells Leafpaw that Squirrelpaw had a dream of her being trapped in that place, and they came to rescue her from it. Sorreltail asks Cody if her Twolegs would be missing her, and she said they would, but it would be too dangerous to make her way back home yet. Sorreltail seems very annoyed about this.
On the way back, she asks Brambleclaw what they're going to tell Firestar about what happened to Graystripe. The whole group of cats miserably pad back to camp. Sorreltail is there when Firestar finds out that Graystripe had been captured by Twolegs. She is seen to be very annoyed of the kittypet, Cody, because she takes most of Leafpaw's time away from her. When Cody leaves to go back to her Twolegs, Sorreltail seems to be glad for her to be gone, but doesn't say so to Leafpaw.
When the journey starts, Sorreltail nearly falls off of a cliff, only to be saved by Leafpaw. She breathlessly thanks her. When she and Leafpaw hunt, she stalks a mouse but forgets about Brambleclaw's instruction to stay still. The mouse runs into a crack and Sorreltail leaps after it, much to Leafpaw's horror. Sorreltail tumbles over the edge, wailing in terror as she half-falls, half-skids down the steep slope. She bumps into a stunted hawthorn bush that stops her from falling any farther. Brambleclaw, as he arrives, angrily scolds her for not listening to him.
She is last seen in the end of the book with Leafpaw, complaining that she is hungry, but comments that it looks like there is good hunting grounds at their new place. She also asks Leafpaw what the sign would be.

Starlight

Sorreltail is first seen with Brackenfur, taking orders from Firestar. Later, Leafpaw asks her if she's seen Squirrelflight, but Sorreltail replies that she hasn't. When Leafpaw experiences her sister's feelings of sadness and anger, Sorreltail asks if she's okay and then goes with Leafpaw to help her look for Squirrelflight.
As the Clans get ready to leave to go to their new separate territories, Sorreltail sees Crowfeather being rude to Leafpaw, and when he's padding away from her, she asks Leafpaw if she wanted for her to deal with him for her.
When Hawkfrost makes his report about the island from the Clan leaders' tree stump, she is indignant, saying that the stump is only for the Leaders, just like the Great Rock was only for leaders at Fourtrees. When Leafpaw and Squirrelflight talk about Hawkfrost together, Leafpaw remembers the time she was with Sorreltail when she accidentally crossed the RiverClan border in the old forest territory. As the Clans leave to go to their separate territories, Sorreltail is ordered to stay at the back of the ThunderClan cats with Sandstorm to make sure no cat falls behind. She and Brackenfur help guide Longtail across the stream.
When Mousefur has bellyache from drinking water from a pool with a dead rabbit in it that Mothwing had brought her, she alerts Cinderpelt. The medicine cat asks her to check Longtail and Goldenflower to make sure they are not also ill. She reports back saying that Goldenflower had bellyache but needs to be watched, and that Longtail is asleep. She sits with Mousefur while she sleeps away the sickness.
She is a part of the patrol that is sent to explore the territory around the hollow, along with Thornclaw, Cloudtail, and Brightheart. When they pick up the scent of fox, she offers to go into the hole and have a look around, but Brightheart reminds her that they should never go into strange holes.
On the way out of the camp to go to the Gathering, Brackenfur checks to make sure that everyone is there and he touches his muzzle to Sorreltail's ear telling her that he is glad she's going. She purrs in response. Later, Brackenfur asks her if she would like to go hunting with him by themselves. Leafpaw sees this and teases her about it but says she is happy for her.
Sorreltail helps Leafpaw find the Moonpool, refusing to let her go alone. She convinces Brackenfur, who is on guard duty, to let them leave even though it was the middle of the night. Once there, she asks Leafpaw if she should follow her to the water, but Leafpaw tells her to wait as she should go alone the first time. After Leafpaw visits the Moonpool, she asks Sorreltail if she saw the StarClan cats, but Sorreltail says that all she saw was a bright mist rising from the pool. When they return, Firestar thanks Leafpaw and Sorreltail for their part in finding the Moonpool.
When Leafpaw goes to find Barkface to tell him about her discovery of the Moonpool, she was originally going to ask Sorreltail to acompany her, but she was sharing tongues with Brackenfur and Leafpaw hadn't wanted to disturb them.

Twilight

Sorreltail is first seen when she sees Leafpool hiding under a holly bush. Leafpool says that she is looking for herbs, but Sorreltail points out that holly berries are poisonous, and aren't herbs. She then confides in Leafpool and reveals to her that she is soon going to have Brackenfur's kits. Leafpool is excited for her. She says that Sorreltail will make a great mother and she promises to take care of her. Sorreltail says that she thinks Brackenfur will make a great father for the kits. Leafpool also realizes that Sorreltail's kits will be the first kits to be born in the new ThunderClan territory. Sorreltail then walks off with Brackenfur to tell him the news.
When Daisy and her kits come to ThunderClan, Sorreltail takes great interest in her kits, and Squirrelflight realizes that Sorreltail is very close to having her kits. Squirrelflight asks Leafpool if she thinks she is kitting soon. Leafpool snaps back, leaving Squirrelflight surprised. Firestar announces that he will allow Daisy and her kits to stay as long as they want, because ThunderClan needs new kits, and Sorreltail's kits won't arrive for another moon. Sorreltail and Brackenfur are seen looking proudly at each other.
During the badger attack, Sorreltail begins her kitting. Cinderpelt comes into the nursery to deliver the kits and defend them and Sorreltail, but a badger breaks into the nursery. Cinderpelt attempts to protect Sorreltail and her unborn kits, but is killed by a blow to her back. Leafpool arrives and sees Sorreltail with a look of terror in her face, and promises that everything will be alright. Leafpool then says her last goodbyes to Cinderpelt, then helps deliver Sorreltail's kits. Leafpool is later seen telling Brackenfur that Sorreltail is fine, and has had four healthy kits.

Sunset

Sorreltail is first seen with her kits after the badger attack. Sootfur is dead, and Rainwhisker is worried for Sorreltail, and how she will cope with the news, since she has to take care of her kits. Rainwhisker goes to tell Sorreltail, and she is devastated. She is seen crying out and dislodging her kits from her belly. Brackenfur comforts her and tells her that she has her kits to think of. Brambleclaw comforts her by telling her that Sootfur was a brave warrior. Sorreltail then blames herself for Cinderpelt's death, saying that she could have escaped but she chose to protect her. She also reveals the names of her kits, Molekit, Poppykit, Honeykit, and Cinderkit. It is noted that Cinderkit looks exactly like Cinderpelt, and is named in her honor.
Later, Leafpool comes to bring Sorreltail some borage to help her milk come. She sorrowfully remembers the adventures that she had with Sorreltail back in the old forest, when they were young and careless. She realizes that it will never be the same now, with Sorreltail as a mother and Leafpool as a medicine cat.
When Daisy and her kits leave, she seems very distressed and keeps searching for them all over the camp. She remarks that she wants to help look for Daisy, but Ferncloud tells her that she has to look after her own kits.
She lets out a gasp of suprise when Leafpool flees the nursery while they were talking. She didn't know that Leafpool felt like something horrible was coming.

In the Power of Three Series

The Sight

It is revealed that between Sunset and The Sight, her son, Molepaw, died of a cough that did not respond to Leafpool's herbs. Her brother Rainwhisker was killed by a falling tree branch during a storm.
She is first seen after Jaykit falls off the edge of the top of the camp. She asks Brackenfur if he is better after his sickness of whitecough. She tells him that he should be glad he isn't in the medicine den anymore. Brackenfur reminds her that it's only because of Jaykit needing it more than him. Sorreltail voices her concern for Jaykit and hope he will be okay.
Later, when Hollykit brings back dock leaves from the medicine den, she sees Honeypaw, Cinderpaw and Poppypaw, and is reminded how much their slender bodies look like their mother, Sorreltail.
At Jaykit's apprentice ceremony, Sorreltail breathes her concern for how Jaykit can never be a proper warrior. This makes Hollypaw feel bad for her brother and Jaykit to say that he wants to be a normal apprentice like everyone else.
When Sorreltail's daughter, Poppypaw, is sick, she comes to the medicine den and asks Jaypaw how she is doing. Jaypaw promises her that he would not let Poppypaw die. Brightheart comes in and nudges Sorreltail saying that Jaypaw will do what he can. She should go hunting with Brackenfur to distract her from her grief. Jaypaw later enters Poppypaw's dream and convinces her to stay away from StarClan. Sorreltail is later seen thanking Jaypaw for keeping her daughter alive.

Dark River

When Cinderpaw falls out of the Sky Oak, she has to go to the medicine den. Sorreltail walks in and plucks the ground with trembling paws. She offers to stay with her, frantic about her injury. She whispers to Cinderpaw that may StarClan protect her. Then she takes the sad Poppypaw and Honeypaw away to go to Brackenfur. After the two medicine cats do all they can for the moment, Leafpool goes to tell Sorreltail what happened.
When ThunderClan is convinced that Hollypaw had been kidnapped by WindClan, Sorreltail hopes that they won't hurt her. Squirrelflight says that Hollypaw's probably gone off by herself, but Sorreltail still frets about why she would miss training practice.
WindClan is ready to plunge into battle with RiverClan, and Honeypaw says that whatever they're doing doesn't make sense, but there's going to be a huge battle either. Sorreltail heads toward her and, with worry, tells Honeypaw there still might not be, but she doesn't look completely convinced herself.

Outcast

When Talon and Night come to get help from ThunderClan, Firestar introduces them to the clan. Dustpelt remarks that he knows he's seen those cats before, and Sorreltail wonders what they want, sounding puzzled instead of hostile. Later, she goes on a hunting patrol with Cloudtail and Dustpelt to help feed the newcomers.
Firestar says that Foxpaw will need a temporary mentor, since Squirrelflight will go on the trip to the Tribe of Rushing Water. Squirrelflight recommends Sorreltail because she's never had an apprentice before. Leafpool says warmly that Sorreltail will be great.

Eclipse

She is first seen going on a hunting patrol with Graystripe, Mousewhisker, and Jaypaw. While they are hunting, Sorreltail remarks that she can't wait until her kits become warriors, as they will have their warrior ceremony any day. She laughs when Mousewhisker remarks that all the old warriors hog all the good nests, and says, teasing, that she won't tell Dustpelt and Thornclaw, to which Mousewhisker begs her not to.
Right before Poppyfrost and Honeyfern are made warriors, Sorreltail is seen grooming their fur. She sadly remembers Molekit, and says that he should be here too. She then asks Leafpool how Cinderpaw is doing, to which Leafpool replies that she is doing fine.
During the battle against RiverClan and WindClan, Jaypaw finds Sorreltail and Honeyfern losing a battle to a couple of RiverClan warriors. He helps drive them off, but Sorreltail twists her paw. Jaypaw makes her go back to camp, but she still wants to fight. When they get to camp, he takes Sorreltail to Leafpool, and tells her that she is in safe paws. Later, after the battle, Jaypaw is seen examining Sorreltail's paw, which, to his relief, looks a lot better.

Long Shadows

When Tawnypelt and her kits seek refuge from ThunderClan, the cats think that they shouldn't keep her. This leads the conversation to fighting ShadowClan and driving Sol out. Sorreltail speaks up and says sharply that there's been enough fighting. She looks at Squirrelflight nervously to prove her point. She, Dustpelt, Spiderleg, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze lead a hunting patrol later to feed the ShadowClan cats.
On that same hunting patrol, Sorreltail gets angry when Lionblaze scares some prey she was stalking. He apologizes to her, but the need for prey makes Sorreltail unwilling to forgive him. She tells Lionblaze that sorry fills no bellies, though Lionblaze doesn't think it is a very big deal.
After they get back from the hunting patrol, Dustpelt remarks that the clan would eat well toady. Then he breaks off in a cough. Sorreltail says that he should see Leafpool as soon as they get back. Dustpelt retorts that he's fine, ending with another cough. Sorreltail flashes back that he is not fine and that he will see Leafpool. Hollyleaf thinks that Sorreltail is the only apprehensive cat about Dustpelt, especially he was her temporary mentor. Dustpelt recoils saying fine and that she doesn't need to be so bossy.
After a hunting patrol, Sorreltail catches a rabbit as big as she is. Ashfur says that they should eat something to get their strength up, but Sorreltail refuses, saying one of the sick cats should eat her share. Ashfur retorts that she will eat, since it won't do the Clan any good if she gets sick too. Sorreltail reluctantly agrees. Later, she is shown to be scared if Brambleclaw gets greencough, too.
She helps get fresh moss for every sick cat, being very cheerful about the task, even when everyone else is disgruntled.

Sunrise

When the Clan is convinced that WindClan was Ashfur's murderer, Sorreltail remains one of the cats that disagrees. She says they can't be sure that WindClan murdered him. Spiderleg interrupts her and says that he died on the WindClan border and that's proof enough for him. Sorreltail turns to him and says that she wants more proof than where his body was found before she starts blaming any cat. Later, she is chosen to go on a patrol to WindClan to ask if Onestar and his warriors saw Ashfur's murderer. During the patrol, she comments that it doesn't feel like their territory anymore. She also refers to Sol as a crow-food-eating menace. When they finally get to WindClan, she remarks that she can't imagine why any cat would want to live there.
When ThunderClan has Sol captive, Firestar wants to prove that Sol murdered Ashfur. Sorreltail comes up with the idea to have Sol bite a leaf and then to compare the bite markings on Ashfur's body to see if they are similar. Firestar says that's brilliant and congratulates Sorreltail on the wonderful idea, but Leafpool refuses, scared about them finding out the true identity of his killer.
Later, Sorreltail's daughter, Honeyfern, dies of a snake bite, taking the blow for Briarkit when a snake is found in camp. Before she and Bracknfur reach Honeyfern, she buries her head into his shoulder and whispers to Brackenfur that she couldn't stand to lose another kit after Molepaw died. When Leafpool stares at one of Sorreltail's other daughters, Cinderheart, as if Cinderpelt would help her, Sorreltail demands why she isn't doing anything. Leafpool tells her sadly that the poison had taken hold of her, and that there was nothing she could do. She lets out a wail of grief, but is comforted by Brackenfur. She grieves when Honeyfern dies, and stays vigil for her. After her vigil, Hollyleaf comes up to Sorreltail to comfort her. Sorreltail tells Hollyleaf that Honeyfern cared for them, and worried about them when Squirrelflight couldn't give them milk. After she talks to Hollyleaf, she tells her that she was going to sleep and see if Honeyfern will walk in her dreams.

In the Omen of the Stars Series

The Fourth Apprentice

While Leopardstar is giving her report, she accuses all of the Clans of stealing prey. Firestar tries to consol her on accusing all of them and Sorreltail comments about how Firestar is right, and that they should not be ruffling each other's fur but rather helping each other.
Later, Brambleclaw is gathering a patrol to escorts Rainstorm back to RiverClan after he was caught in the mud. After they leave him in the paws of Mistyfoot and his muttered thanks, she comments that he could have been more grateful for the ThunderClan cats' help. Brambleclaw shrugs in response saying that no cat likes to admit help from another Clan.
Then, while Dovepaw uses her special senses, she hears Sorreltail hunting with Brackenfur in the forest. Sorreltail catches a squirrel and Brackenfur congratulates her on her catch. Dovepaw shuts them out soon, not wanting to listen anymore.
Sorreltail and Brackenfur are later noted that they are out hunting with Brambleclaw by Ferncloud when Poppyfrost goes missing.

Fading Echoes

Sorreltail becomes a grandmother when her daughter, Poppyfrost, gives birth to Berrynose's kits, one tom and one she-cat named Molekit and Cherrykit.
Lionblaze asks if she was looking for Cinderheart, and she replies no. She tells Lionblaze that she is going on a hunting patrol, becauses Jayfeater told her that her shoulder was healed after she wrentched it a few days ago. She then asks if Cinderheart was there and she gazes at her daugher. Her eyes glow with pride when she sees Cinderheart climbing the tree. She comments that Leafpool was a great medicine cat, making Lionblaze angry at his own mother again.
Lionblaze then remembers Sedgewhisker and asks where they were going. She replies that they were going by the WindClan border, and Lionblaze feels relieved, thinking that if WindClan really were in trouble, the hunting patrol would notice and Graystripe would decided whether to help them or not.
Later, when ShadowClan and ThunderClan are fighting over territory, she battles Smokefoot. She mews furiously at Dovepaw to help her. Dovepaw knocks Smokefoot's paws from under him, and he lands on his belly. Sorreltail growls a thank you at Dovepaw and continues to battle with Smokefoot.
She is the first to see Firestar lose a life, and shrieks out loud. She is mentioned to be leaning over him with her eyes clouding. When Sandstorm asks what is wrong, Sorreltail grimly replies that Firestar was losing a life.

Night Whispers

Sorreltail is first seen near the beginning of the book. Her wounds from the battle are being treated by Jayfeather. She asks Jayfeather if he had talked to Leafpool about Briarlight's infection yet, and Jayfeather gives her a frustrated reply.
Later, Sorreltail is seen with Brackenfur, matching his walking pace step by step. When Lionblaze sees them like that, he think about how one day that it could be him and their daughter, Cinderheart, walking like that, with their kits running at their paws.

Sign of the Moon

Sorreltail is first seen in the Clan meeting at the foot of the cliff with Sandstorm, Dustpelt, and Cloudtail.
Later she is seen gossiping beside the fresh-kill pile with Spiderleg and Brackenfur. When Blossomfall and Ivypool get out from tunnels, Sorreltail is seen with a blackbird feather stuck to her nose.
She is part of a ThunderClan exercise, which is during the night. Sorreltail is chosen to lead the a patrol with Ivypool, Lionblaze and Berrynose. She asks suggestions from Ivypool and then says that she knows what Brackenfur, her mate, is thinking. After they finish discussing, her patrol splits up. Berrynose and her go to the Twoleg nest, while Ivypool and Lionblaze track down one of Brackenfur's patrol. In the end, her patrol wins.
After everyone is settled down, they discuss about their mistakes and what they had learned. Sorreltail admits that they had some mistakes too. She had forgotten how many ways there were to get inside the nest, and that she and Berrynose almost ran into each other. She is last seen following Brackenfur out of the twoleg nest, and is not mentioned again.

The Forgotten Warrior

Sorreltail is again a queen with two she-kits, Seedkit and Lilykit, although the kits are unexpected. A problem arises with her hips and she begins to kit by the lake, so Jayfeather instructs Briarlight to get herbs ready and goes to help Sorreltail. He sends Dovewing to gather the relevant herbs.

In the Ravenpaw's Path Series

A Clan in Need

Sorreltail is seen as an apprentice when she and Rainpaw go out to hunt for Sandstorm and the kits. Later, Rainpaw comes running back to camp yowling that Sorrelpaw has been attacked by rogues. A rescue party is sent out to find Sorrelpaw. When they find her, she is on the ground next to a tree. While they carry her back she says there were many rogues that had attacked her. It is the trouble she went through that causes Barley to go up to Firestar and reveal what he knows about his past and BloodClan.

Trivia

  • Sorreltail is based on Cherith Baldry's own cat, Sorrel.[6]
  • She has WindClan blood because her great-grandfather, Windflight, was half WindClan.[7]
  • Even though she became a warrior in Midnight, she is still listed as an apprentice in the allegiances of Moonrise.[8]
  • She has SkyClan blood, because her mother, Willowpelt, is Spottedleaf's sister.[9]

Quotes

Firestar: "I'm glad to see you awake, Sorrelkit. Can you tell me what happened to you?"
Sorrelkit: "Sootkit and Rainkit were asleep in the nursery, but I wasn't sleepy. My mother wasn't watching, so I went to play in the ravine. I wanted to catch a mouse. And then I saw Darkstripe."
Firestar: "Go on."
Sorrelkit: "He was coming up the ravine by himself. I knew he should have Brackenfur with him, and I...I wondered where he was going. I followed him-I remembered the time he took Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw out of the camp, and I thought I might have an adventure like that, too. I followed him a long way. I'd never been so far from the camp. I hid from Darkstripe too-he didn't know I was there. And then he met another cat- a cat I'd never seen before."
Firestar: "What other cat? What did it look like? What scent did it have?"
Sorrelkit: "I didn't recognize the scent. But it was yucky. He was a big white cat- bigger than you, Firestar. And he had black paws."
Firestar: "Blackfoot! Tigerstar's deputy. That was ShadowClan scent you smelled, Sorrelkit."
Sandstorm: "And what's Darkstripe doing, meeting the ShadowClan deputy on our territory? That's what I'd like to know."
Firestar: "So what happened then?"
Sorrelkit: "I got scared. I ran back to camp, but I think Darkstripe must have heard me, because he caught up with me in the ravine. I though he would be angry with me because I spied on him, but he told me how clever I was. He gave me some red berries for a special treat. They looked tasty, but when I ate them I started to feel really ill....And I don't remember anything else, except waking up here."
—Sorrelkit telling Firestar about Darkstripe feeding her deathberries The Darkest Hour

"Sorreltail, if any cat can look after herself, it's you."
―Brackenfur to Sorreltail Starlight

Dustpelt: "The Clan will eat well today. Let's go."
Sorreltail: "You should see Leafpool as soon as you get back."
Dustpelt: "I'm fine."
Sorreltail: "You are not fine, and you will see Leafpool."
Dustpelt: "All right, no need to be so bossy."
—Sorreltail convincing Dustpelt to go see Leafpool after Dustpelt starts coughing painfully Long Shadows

Sorreltail: "But all the same, we can't be sure that a WindClan cat--"
Spiderleg: "Ashfur died on the WindClan border. What more do you want?"
Sorreltail: "I want a bit more evidence than where his body was found before I start blaming any cat."
—Sorreltail backing up WindClan when Spiderleg is convinced they are murderers Sunrise
