Chapter description[]

The ThunderClan camp floods, as it had been raining steadily for days. Spotpaw hears the rain from the apprentice’s den, and her denmates shift beside her. Eaglepaw grumbles, and she is lulled to sleep by the rain, but she suddenly wakes to the moss being soaked. She leaps to her paws, and Flypaw is also awake. She sees a stream of water spreading across the floor, and Stempaw says that they should go check the rest of the camp. She squirms out of the den, and outside, it was raining hard and water streamed down the hollow walls. Ivypool and Fernsong were huddled by the nursery, and Graystripe and Millie peer out of the elder's den. Cinderheart then yowls that Bramblestar is evacuating camp, and Spotpaw asks if it was really that bad. She answers that it was just in case, and to stay together.
The Clan exit the dens as the water rises, and the kits shelter under Daisy, Ivypool, and Fernsong. The cats gather in the clearing, and Snappaw presses aginst Spotpaw's side. She comforts her littermate, and Snappaw relaxes slightly. Bramblestar strides to the head of the cats, and they follow him. Spotpaw watches as the cats exit, and she starts forward with the other apprentices. The rain is coming down even harder, and she can barely see as she wades through the mud. She trips, and falls on Flipkit, and she apologizes and asks where his parents were. Flipkit wails that they had left him, and Spotpaw comforts the kit. The rain blurs her vision, and she realizes a kit could easily be left behind.
She asks Flipkit why he didn't keep up, and Flipkit shakily mews that he is stuck. She realizes that he must've stepped in a mud hole, and she claws at the mud, worried that they would fall behind. She finally frees Flipkit, and picks him up in her jaws, and says that they had to hurry. Flipkit shelters under her belly, and she tries to stand as tall as possible as Flipkit crouches, and tells him to yowl if he was being left behind. They slowly go through the thorn tunnel, and their paws slip on wet rocks. When they come out of the ravine, the rest of the cats were out of sight. Flipkit asks where everybody was, and she thinks to herself that she had to be brave, and asks if he sees any sign of the Clan. Flipkit spots a long scrape in the mud, and they go uphill, seeing more signs of the Clan.
They hear the sounds of the Clan making camp, and somebody calling Flipkit's name. Spotpaw calls that she was with him, and Ivypool bursts through the branches, asking if Flipkit is alright. She thanks Spotpaw, and leads them to the camp. The new camp is just as waterlogged, but on higher ground, and Bramblestar tells her that she did well. The Clan is sheltered under the branches, and Stempaw asks where she was. She murmurs that she got Flipkit back, and Stempaw purrs. Stempaw wakes her the next morning, and the sun is shining. She excitedly leaps to her paws, and her and Stempaw stand together for a heartbeat. She dreamily wonders if they would become mates one day, but then realizes that it was too early for that. She remembers CInderheart telling her a Clan depended on strong warriors, and she thinks to herself that StarClan had guided her paws. Flypaw then calls to them, saying that they had to clean out the dens. She tells Stempaw that as long as the were together, it would be fine.
