Squirrel is a member of the Cats of the Park and she shared a nest with Ripple when they were kits. Squirrel escapes capture from the Twolegs when they destroyed the park. When Slash and his rogues take over their territory and demand prey, Squirrel and Dart smuggle food for the elders who are in hiding. Riverstar spots her next to Stoat as they stare in fear at Slash. Riverstar, Arc, and Drizzle meet with Squirrel, Stoat, and Finch that night, and Squirrel is delighted to see Arc and Riverstar, pleased that her former denmate found a new home. She explains how Slash has been demanding prey and that the elders are still in hiding. Squirrel is hesitant about a fight since she and the other park cats are inexperienced, but Riverstar develops a plan to recruit some of Slash's rogues to help while also teaching the park cats how to fight in secret. During the battle against Slash, Squirrel faces off against a tabby rogue. After Slash's defeat, Squirrel patrols with Finch and Arc and later helps Moth repair the camp wall. When Riverstar and Drizzle decide to return to RiverClan on a log raft, Squirrel cries out for Finch, who had jumped in the river to join them at the last minute.
