Chapter description[]

Squirrelflight leaps down from the tree-bridge and Alderheart rushes to catch up to her. The two cats talk about Sunrise and if she is well enough to travel. Alderheart thinks that she should be okay as long as her campmates help her, but Squirrelflight wonders if sending the Sisters away so suddenly is the right thing to do. Alderheart says it is for the best for every cat, because Tigerstar wants war and it would be risky for ThunderClan to continue to house them. Squirrelflight knows Alderheart is right, and that the Sisters had just come at a bad time. Squirrelflight takes it upon herself to warn the Sisters of Bramblestar's choice to make them leave, and she is tailed by Bumblestripe on the way back to camp.
Approaching the elders' den, Squirrelflight awakens Snow, one of the Sisters, and warns her that she needs to leave. Tempest, another Sister, looks alarmed and asks when. Squirrelflight mews that the group needs to leave tonight when Bramblestar's patrol returns to camp. She hopes that Sunrise is well enough to travel, having been seriously injured from a fight with ShadowClan. Deciding to see Sunrise for herself, Squirrelflight makes her way to the medicine den. She meets Leafpool there and they, along with the other Sisters, discuss plans to get them out of Clan territory safely. Squirrelflight tells Sunrise that ShadowClan wants war against the Sisters, and that they were held off by Leafstar and Bramblestar. Leafpool tries to explain to Hawk that it is because they attacked ShadowClan, and that it could be seen as defending themselves. She goes on to say that what matters is that the Sisters leave to avoid any further arguing.
After some objections from Bramblestar, Squirrelflight accompanies the Sisters back to their camp, and she tries her to best to make sure the group of cats is not discovered or scented by ShadowClan. Squirrelflight tells Larksong that she is the cat who brought the Sisters to ThunderClan, so it is her job to see them home as well. Moonlight welcomes her groupmates back warmly, and Squirrelflight notices that she still has not given birth to her kits yet. Moonlight asks if ShadowClan is aware that they will be moving once Moonlight has given birth, and Squirrelflight says that they know, but Tigerstar does not want to wait that long. She adds that two other Clans, RiverClan and WindClan, are willing to fight alongside Tigerstar. Bramblestar, however, says that they must have StarClan's permission to fight. Squirrelflight says that her ancestors used to fight alongside the living, but those days are over and they only appear to medicine cats now.
Moonlight says that they can see the dead, and that all cats born of the Sisters have this unique skill. Squirrelflight is reminded of Tree, and how he can see dead cats too. Squirrelflight asks if they know of the future, like StarClan, but Moonlight and Tempest object. Moonlight explains that their ancestors walk among them and know no more dead than they did alive. Squirrelflight warns Moonlight to watch out for the Clans, and that although Bramblestar has stalled Tigerstar for now, it will not be long before the ShadowClan leader acts on his ideas. Squirrelflight thinks to herself how to deal with this problem, and while she knows the Sisters mean no harm, she has no idea how to convince the other Clans to leave them in peace.
