"I don't know anything of the kind, but I'm not responsible for how Moonlight might react. I know that you're worried, but I'm not going there to fight. I don't want the Sisters to be hurt. I will do everything in my power to make sure we move her without bloodshed. I promise I'm only trying to do what's est, Squirrelflight. I can't let the Clans fight among themselves. StarClan has told us there must be peace. This is the only way we can ensure that peace."

Chapter description[]

Tigerstar, Harestar, and Mistystar are insulted by Moonlight's refusal to leave her territory, convinced the Sisters must be arrogantly holding onto their land because they knew the Clans want it. Squirrelflight argues that the Sisters only want to stay until Moonlight has her kits, though Bramblestar agrees the Sisters must be driven away to maintain the fragile peace between the Clans. Even Leafstar relents, though she posits sending a large enough patrol as a show of force to coerce the Sisters to leave without a fight. The other Clan leaders agree with Leafstar's idea, though the SkyClan leader refuses to participate. Despite Squirrelflight's concerns that this decision will only lead to bloodshed, the other leaders agree to meet on SkyClan's territory at dawn. As they leave, Harestar and Mistystar slyly remark that Bramblestar is taking charge of ThunderClan for a change, must to Squirrelflight's ire.
After Bramblestar organizes who will be joining the patrol tomorrow morning, he confronts Squirrelflight if she will support him tomorrow. The pair argues, with Squirrelflight insisting that Bramblestar hasn't understood her for nearly a moon while Bramblestar challenges that all Squirrelflight cares about is kits and the Sisters instead of her own Clan. Her mate expects Squirrelflight to support him, though Squirrelflight still doesn't believe threatening unborn kits is the solution. She eventually relents that despite not agreeing with his decision, she still loves him, and the two retire for the night. That night, Squirrelflight dreams of a battle where she kills Sparkpelt's son. In a panic, Squirrelflight rushes to check in on Sparkpelt and her kits, though they are peacefully asleep in the nursery. To her surprise, Leafpool is also awake. Squirrelflight tells Leafpool about her nightmare, and Leafpool cautions that it might be a warning about Moonlight's kits.
