Chapter description[]
- Squirrelflight and Leafpool lounge in a replica of ThunderClan's old camp in the forest territories with their kin and old Clanmates. She and her sister reminisce about their apprenticeships with their former mentors, Dustpelt and Cinderpelt. Juniperkit, Dandelionkit, and Flickerkit race while clinging on Briarlight's and Larksong's backs, and Squirrelflight wonders if the kits regret that they'll never become warriors. Firestar explains that the kits are content learning warrior skills and playing with others, including Mosskit. While Leafpool and Cinderpelt leave to hunt with Yellowfang, Hollyleaf shows Squirrelflight around StarClan's territory with Larksong, Sandstorm, and the kits. Hollyleaf and Squirrelflight catch a squirrel while tree hunting, though Squirrelflight is surprised that the kits manage to weave through the tree branches like nimble warriors. Flickerkit's hunting skills reminds Squirrelflight of her living kin Sparkpelt and Bramblestar. Suddenly longing to reunite with her kin, Squirrelflight returns to the special pond from earlier, determined to send a message and speak to Sparkpelt. She spots her body in the medicine den next to Alderheart, Jayfeather, and Bramblestar, but she cannot see her daughter. Believing that Sparkpelt needs her, Squirrelflight is resolved to return to the living world, though Leafpool prefers to remain behind in StarClan. Larksong asks Squirrelflight to pass a message to Sparkpelt and, after bidding farewell to her kin, Squirrelflight jumps into the pond.
