Chapter description[]
- Squirrelflight wakes up to the scent of Bramblestar and his patrol. She wakes up Leafstar, and tells her that the rescue party is there. Squirrelflight hurries outside her den, and notices the hostile glares the two groups send each other. She yowls for them to stop, and Leafstar agrees, confusing both groups. Squirrelflight tells Hawkwing that the Sisters have not harmed her or Leafstar. She realizes that she is lying, but believes that it is necessary to keep the two groups from fighting. More Sisters come out from their dens, and Squirrelflight begins to see how small the Clan cats are compared to the Sisters. Moonlight, the Sisters' leader asks what the patrols are doing in their camp. Bramblestar explains that they are there to take their Clanmates back.
- Moonlight states that their Clanmates were being treated as Sisters. Squirrelflight explains why the Sisters had to keep them there, but Bramblestar and Squirrelflight meet together. Leafstar limps over to her Clanmates, but Snow doesn't let her. She states that the Clans have to respect the Sisters' boundaries. Bramblestar realizes that Moonlight is carrying kits, but ignores this, and informs them that they are taking their Clanmates home. Tree pushes his way to the front and glares at Moonlight. Squirrelflight wonders why, and is completely shocked when Tree greets Moonlight as mother. Moonlight blankly stares at him until Sunrise calls him Earth. Tree reveals that he changed his name to Tree after Moonlight abandoned him. Tree continues to condemn his mother, and Moonlight continues to defend herself nonchalantly. Bramblestar insists that the Sisters let Squirrelflight and Leafstar leave, and Squirrelflight explains that the Sisters intend to leave the territory once Moonlight's kits are weaned. Leafstar agrees to move SkyClan there once the Sisters leave, but on the condition that they let her and Squirrelflight go. The Sisters let their prisoners leave, and the groups part ways on bad terms.
- On their way back, Bramblestar angrily berates Squirrelflight for her childish actions. She tries to defend herself, arguing that Bramblestar would've stopped her if he knew about the mission and that, regardless of her mistake, she has found the solution to the Clans' problems. The ThunderClan leader overrides Squirrelflight, insisting that she shouldn't have gone behind his back or put their daughter, Sparkpelt, in a difficult position by asking her to keep the mission secret. Bramblestar threatens to replace Squirrelflight as deputy, and orders her to run every decision by him before executing it. This causes a shocked and frustrated Squirrelflight to sense that Bramblestar isn't going to forgive her any time soon.
