- Flippaw asks Squirrelflight how the Sisters were. Squirrelflight answers, but Flippaw continues pressing. Hollytuft pulls Flippaw off of Squirrelflight, while sympathetically glancing at the deputy. Squirrelflight scans the clearing, and heads towards the elders' den. Graystripe remarks that she must be glad to be back, as another cat's prey isn't as tasty as someone's own. Cloudtail adds that he can't imagine what Graystripe and he would do if Millie and Brightheart kicked them out.
- Squirrelflight sees Bramblestar coming down from Highledge. The two greet each other. Bramblestar asks about who Squirrelflight planned to send on dawn patrol. Squirrelflight explains that she likes to see who is awake in the morning, but Bramblestar tells her that that is sloppy. He orders her to tell him who is going to be on dawn patrol the night before, and Squirrelflight gets angry at him. She claims that Bramblestar can trust her, but Bramblestar claims that after she went behind his back and got herself captured, he needs to be confident.
- Sparkpelt enters the den. Overhearing their argument, she asks if everything is alright. The two cats reply that things are fine. Sparkpelt reveals that she is expecting kits, and Squirrelflight and Bramblestar congratulate her. After she leaves, Bramblestar politely remarks that he knows how much Squirrelflight wanted kits, but Squirrelflight coldly retorts that she knows how much Bramblestar doesn't. She heads for Leafpool's den for advice and comfort.
- Squirrelflight and Leafpool talk about Sparkpelt's news. Squirrelflight reveals that Bramblestar is angry, and she wants kits. Leafpool comforts her. Squirrelflight tells her that she knows how hard it was for Leafpool to watch Squirrelflight raise Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather. Leafpool tells her that she was always there for them, and it was like she had raised them. Squirrelflight tells her that that was how the Sisters did things, and that Leafpool didn't have to choose between her kits and her medicine cat position in the Sisters. Leafpool tells her that no cat made her choose, and Squirrelflight realizes that she had touched a nerve. They talk about the similarities and differences between the Clans and the Sisters.
