Chapter description[]
- While hunting, Squirrelflight, Larksong, Sparkpelt, Blossomfall, and Mousewhisker encounter Snow from the Sisters trespassing onto their territory. The white she-cat asks for a medicine cat to treat Sunrise's injuries. Squirrelflight is initially hesitant to act without Bramblestar's approval, but she eventually agrees to assess Sunrise's injuries herself. However, Sunrise's wounds are dire, and Squirrelflight agrees to take Sunrise to their camp for treatment. Snow, Tempest, and Sister wish to accompany their fellow sister, though Sparkpelt reminds her mother that Bramblestar won't approve. Knowing that Sunrise desperately needs a medicine cat, Squirrelflight agrees with the Sisters. As they slowly trek back to camp, Snow explains how they were tracking Clan scent near their land until they were attacked while trespassing onto Clan territory; Squirrelflight recognizes Snow's descriptions as ShadowClan's territory. Stonewing managed to slice Sunrise's flank before the ShadowClan warriors retreated. Sparkpelt's concerned that helping the Sisters might draw Tigerstar's ire.
- Their arrival causes a stir in ThunderClan's camp. As the Sisters, Larksong, and Mousewhisker lay Sunrise down in the clearing, Squirrelflight calls for the medicine cats. Before Leafpool can fetch cobwebs, Bramblestar orders her to halt. He whispers why Squirrelflight would put him in this position without consulting him first, though Squirrelflight icily insists that there wasn't time for a meeting. While the medicine cats wish to help Sunrise, others like Blossomfall, Thornclaw, Birchfall, and Hollytuft demand for the Sisters to leave for attacking ShadowClan and kidnapping Squirrelflight earlier. Twigbranch, Mousewhisker, and Finleap insist they cannot let a cat die, though Bramblestar eventually decides to consult StarClan first, requesting Alderheart and Jayfeather to swiftly communicate with their ancestors for permission. Squirrelflight is outrated by her mate's decision, and the Sisters are equally confused. While Leafpool tends to Sunrise's injuries to keep her alive, Squirrelflight wonders what happened to ThunderClan's honor.
