Shrewpaw

Shrewpaw was friends with Squirrelflight when they were both apprentices.[2] When Shrewpaw died, Squirrelpaw was deeply saddened.[3]

Dustpelt

Sandstorm: "What didn’t she do? Slipping out of camp to hunt on her own...getting stuck in bushes, falling into streams...I remember Dustpelt saying to me once, ‘If that kit of yours doesn’t shape up, I’m going to claw her pelt off and hang it on a bush to frighten the foxes!"
Sparkpaw: "He wouldn’t have."
Sandstorm: "No, of course not. But Dustpelt had to be tough with her. He saw how much she had to offer her Clan, but he knew she wouldn’t live up to her potential unless she learned discipline."
—Sandstorm reflecting about Dustpelt. The Apprentice's Quest
Dustpelt was Squirrelflight's mentor, picked specially by Firestar to try and balance Squirrelflight's feisty personality.[4] While Dustpelt was often strict with her, he saw her potential and wanted her to succeed, though this did not stop Squirrelflight from continually testing her mentor's patience.[5] When Squirrelflight helped lead the Clan to their new home in the gorge, Dustpelt sought out Firestar and recommended to him about making her a warrior, and was incredibly proud when she did.[6]
Years later, Sandstorm tells Squirrelflight's kits, Alderheart and Sparkpelt about the time when Dustpelt told her that he was going to claw off Squirrelflight's pelt if she didn't behave. Though Sandstorm knew he didn't mean it, and truly wanted the best for her. [4]

Ashfur

"I know you think I've never forgiven Brambleclaw for stealing you from me, but you're wrong, and so is every cat that thinks so. My quarrel is with you, Squirrelflight. It always has been."
―Ashfur confrontation with Squirrelflight Long Shadows
Squirrelpaw and Ashfur were average clanmates, up until she went traveling to Sun-drown-place. In that time, Ashfur worried for her, being one of the few cats to greet warmly on her return.[7] After moving to the Lake territories, the two developed a supportive and playful friendship.[8] [9] However, Ashfur wanted to spend an increasing amount of time with Squirrelflight, usually being the first to approach, even while her focus was elsewhere.[10][11]
Ashfur becomes overprotective of Squirrelflight. Fighting her battles and defending her against their Clanmates, specifically Brambleclaw, much to the frustration of the independent she-cat,[12][13] needing her closest companion to match her feisty personality, not contain it.[14] As Ashfur’s romantic feelings became clear, Squirrelflight briefly questioned her own feelings, though politely asked to remain, friends.[15]
Ashfur wouldn't accept her answer, guilt tripping her until ignoring her entirely, even with simple greetings, leaving Squirrelfight guilt-ridden.[16] Her guilt sparked to anger when Ashfur made his first move to spite Squirrelflight, accusing her sister, Leafpool of lying about Brambleclaw's deputy vision, which provokes Squirrelflight to almost attacking him.[17] Seasons on, Squirrelflight and Ashfur seemingly learned to tolerate one another, despite occasional moments of tension.[18]
However, Ashfur reveals his hidden vendetta went to the extreme, confessing to the four attempted murders of Squirrelflight’s family members and swearing to humiliate her in front of the Gathering, all in an attempt to make her feel the same pain he did at her rejection.[19] When Squirrelflight begged him not to expose the secret, Ashfur didn’t care to listen, intending to get her exiled.[20]
After Ashfur’s murder, Squirrelflight was unsettled by both the death and the praise he received from his clanmates, unknowing of his crimes.[21] When she temporarily goes to Starclan, she's confused and uncomfortable to discover Ashfur was there, questioning why he didn’t end up in the Dark Forest. She reluctantly dismisses it, when Hollyleaf explains he’s apologized to Starclan. The former friends awkwardly don't say a word to each other.[22]
