| "Weren't you listening when we told them of Stoneteller's prophecy? Our Clanmates are afraid. They're doubtful. They don't exactly share your enthusiasm. [...] Pebblenose is staying here. And Thrushcall. They've had enough. They've abandoned the Clan." |

Chapter description[]
- Galestar rests contentedly on a boulder, enjoying the waterfall and the peace around her. She knows, however, that StormClan is unsettled, especially after learning of Stoneteller's messages. She is snapped out of her thoughts by Pebblenose and Thrushcall, who seem tense. Pebblenose admits his discontent with all that has happened and that he no longer trusts Galestar, and says that they have decided to stay with the Tribe. The two mates leave her with a somber goodbye from Pebblenose, and Galestar struggles with a sense of betrayal.
- When Stripestar finds Galestar, his optimism angers her, and she tells him about Pebblenose and Thrushcall, wondering if StormClan is as foolish as Pebblenose believes. Stripestar replies that Pebblenose is weaker than them, and that they had needed to leave for their survival. He interprets Stoneteller's message about their legacy to mean that they will have kits, giving Galestar hope. Soon after, StormClan prepares to leave, with Galestar starting to understand Pebblenose and Thrushcall for following their hearts, even as their former Clanmates express hostility toward them. Galestar and Stripestar offer Stoneteller their gratitude, and Galestar shares a silent farewell with Pebblenose.
- A quarter moon later, StormClan has left the mountains, traveling in high spirits. Suddenly, Galestar is pulled by instinct through some bushes, where she finds a stone hollow with a pool of water. Deciding this special place is suitable for a camp, Galestar and Stripestar lead StormClan into the hollow, with Galestar noticing the ancient paw prints along the path. As the cats begin to settle, Stoneflower and Goldenleaf interact with the pool, only to express bewilderment at the sensations it gives them. Alarmed, Stripestar decides that no one should drink from the pool. The following morning, Galestar wakes up a restless Stripestar from a nightmare, though he refuses to tell her about it. Just as Galestar tells Tinyclaw to prepare StormClan to leave, Peaktail calls out an alert about a dog, and StormClan flees. Galestar grabs a frightened kit and hurries out of the hollow, feeling a rush of relief and joy as the Clan escapes.
