Chapter description[]
- StormClan keeps on going after being driven out from beside the pool by a dog, strangely content and buzzing with excitement—something that Stripestar does not share, for once. Galestar has obviously noticed that something is concerning him, but he does not dare to share his worries with her out of fear that his ominous dreams may make her doubt the Clan's future again. When Galestar suggests that they stop for a rest, Stripestar pleads with her to reconsider, feeling exposed and vulnerable at their current location. He grapples with his troubles as Galestar silently pads beside him once more.
- The season turns to leaf-fall as StormClan continues their search for a suitable place to call home. They enter an apple forest, eerie and odd, as the trees planted in a perfect line surround them. With the help of Mudsplash and Hazelfrond scouting ahead from the height of the trees, the Clan realizes that they are all but surrounded by Twolegs and their monsters. Stripestar feels something akin to jealousy as the cats easily agree with Galestar's ideas, so he intercepts, suggesting that it might be easier and faster to simply sneak past the Twolegs. They decide to give his method a try.
- As the cats make their way through the forest, the smell of something delicious distracts them. They discuss whether they should attempt to steal from the Twoleg's food; Galestar warns about the danger of it all, and Hazelfrond points out that only kittypets take food from them, but Stripestar and Tinyclaw insist on filling the Clan's bellies. Stripestar brings three former ThunderClan warriors with him, hesitantly approaching the colorful pelts that the Twolegs had laid out for themselves. Twoleg kits joyfully run towards the cats, and with Flash's help, they manage to make themselves look harmless and cute; in turn, the Twoleg kits happily offer them their tasty food. When the adult Twolegs realize what is happening, they chase after StormClan, forcing them to scatter and flee.
