Chapter description[]
- Galestar gazes at the landscape before her, seated at her favorite spot of the Twoleg den that StormClan now calls home. She reminisces on how lucky they are to have ended up here; after Twolegs had driven them out of the apple forest, they had come across this abandoned nest. Recalling how she had first advised the Clan to keep watch and make sure the place is deserted, she thinks about Stripestar and his infectious optimism. The two of them had been oddly distant lately, thanks to her mate putting distance between himself and seemingly everyone else, neglecting to actually talk to Galestar about his troubles.
- When Galestar spots Stripestar, she calls him over for a talk. They both admit how nice it feels to be in a secluded place, away from the anxieties and trouble that come with leading a Clan. Galestar presses Stripestar to talk to her, asking if his behavior is because he keeps thinking about their lost kits too. Stripestar eventually crumbles; he confesses how much it hurt to lose the kits and how he had wanted nothing more than to raise a family. Galestar, relieved that the wall between them is now gone, stresses that StormClan must endure everything in honor of their kits. At last, the pair reconciles and strengthens their bond once more.
- Later, Galestar is pleased to see apprentices and warriors live a normal Clan life. When Huntheart and Fernwhisper approach her and Stripestar, wanting to talk, Galestar worries that something is wrong. Fernwhisper soothes her, and Huntheart reveals that she is expecting his kits. Galestar first thinks that a cross-Clan relationship is breaking the code and quickly corrects herself, seeing as they are all now one Clan. Her hurt remains however—grief-stricken, she remembers how her and Stripestar's litter had been supposed to be the first StormClan kits. She internally berates herself for not managing to share Stripestar and their Clanmates' joy at such good news. Goldenleaf's arrival silences the Clan then, and she shares details of her dreams: StarClan, or whatever may be watching over them now, has given her a vision of lightning and wind, the symbol of StormClan itself. Galestar still cannot bring herself to celebrate like Stripestar, still thinking about their lost kits.
