Chapter description[]
- Stripestar reflects on his Clan's struggles with food, having given up on hunting gulls due to how risky it was. He recalls what happened to Rainkit, vowing to not let anything similar happen again, even going as far as to send warriors out to protect his kits when they left their den.
- Tumbletail, Swiftwing, and Roughpelt all stop Stripestar to discuss the lack of prey, with Tumbletail suggesting trying to catch rats in the carrionplace again despite the risk. Stripestar immediately snaps at him, declining the idea, and the patrol begins to trek back to camp.
- The patrol finds a strange object in the sand, and Stripestar realizes that it is a fish with legs, much like the one from his dreams. He recalls Stoneteller's warning to not settle at the sun-drown-place, and while the other cats discuss if it can be eaten, Stripestar calls for them to run, intent on leaving the cliffs before a storm breaks.
- The moment he reaches the camp, Stripestar yowls for Galestar and Tinyclaw, urging them to quickly abandon camp and flee towards higher ground. Galestar is unbothered as she mentions their kits are still too small to climb, and when Stripestar continues to insist that they flee, she snaps at him. He stares at her for a moment, knowing he has declined to tell her about Stoneteller's prophecy, and Tinyclaw mentions the fish with legs and white gull. He quickly tries to explain, though Galestar angrily stops him, furious that he never told her and told Tinyclaw instead.
- In her rage, Galestar refuses to evacuate the kits, reminding Stripestar again that they are too small to travel. Stripestar is reminded of their battle moons prior before forming StormClan and how she feels like an enemy once more. He tries to plead with her to evacuate the camp, but she refuses to help, and as she retreats to her den, Stripestar wonders if he will lose more than just the argument.
