"Think about what I can offer you. So much more than merely knowing your ancestors! Real power takes much more than that. Listen to me, and I’ll teach you how to truly hold the power of the stars in your paws.”
Below contains in-depth information for chapter twenty-three of Sunrise (book). If you are looking for a shorter summary of the entire book, please check the main article.
Lionblaze slips from camp through the dirtplace tunnel. He sees no clouds covering the stars that glimmer in the sky and wonders if that means StarClan approves of what he is doing. He thinks he must do this, whatever their view is. He creeps along the cliff edge of the hollow towards the thornbush where Sol was being kept, careful as to not alert Birchfall who sits guard. He sneaks in, and wakes the sleeping prisoner, who is surprised to see him. Lionblaze informs him he found out his mother is not who he thought she was and needs to figure out how it will affect the prophecy. Sol tells him he can start by helping him escape. Lionblaze is firmly against betraying his Clan and begins to leave, but the loner catches his attention again, asking if he wants to know who his father is.
Lionblaze is surprised he knows this information, but Sol will not give him answers until he helps him escape. Lionblaze wonders how he can trust him, and the question comes out louder than intended, catching Birchfall's attention, but Sol covers him. Sol has an amused tone as he meows Lionblaze cannot know if he can trust him, but knowledge is power, and he currently has more knowledge than anyone. Lionblaze is persuaded and makes the loner promise him to tell him who his father is and advise him about the prophecy. He leads him up the cliff face, and Sol tells him to get back to the warriors'den before anyone notices his absence, and to bring his littermates and meet him in the old Twoleg nest past the ShadowClanborder. Lionblaze is frustrated at not getting answers right away, but agrees. As he returns to camp he argues with himself that he did the right thing.
The next morning, Sol's absence is discovered by the rest of ThunderClan. The cats are still convinced he is guilty, and Firestar decides they will double their patrols for the time being and hopes Sol learned the Clans should not be messed with. He also decides they will tell the rest of the Clans that they banished him from their territories to not appear weak for allowing a prisoner to escape. After the cats disperse, Lionblaze finds his siblings and has them meet together in the training clearing. He confesses that he helped Sol escape and he promised to tell them who their father is. Hollyleaf is angry that he let a prisoner escape and Jayfeather is uneasy, but they agree to accompany Lionblaze to the old Twoleg nest to meet with him.
They travel and reach the nest where Sol greets them. Hollyleaf demands to know the truth, but Sol asks if it really matters who their father is as long as they are part of the prophecy, and Lionblaze agrees, stating the prophecy is more important, even though he would also like to know the truth. At the look of cold amusement in his eyes, Lionblaze realizes Sol is enjoying the power he has over them and wonders if he even knows anything about their father at all. The loner is unfazed by Hollyleaf's aggression and insists she think about what he has to offer, real power takes more than knowing their father, and by listening to him he will teach them how to truly hold the power of the stars.
Hollyleaf is furious and prepares to attack Sol, but Lionblaze stops her. Jayfeather wonders why they even need Sol, as the prophecy says nothing about needing help and Sol cannot be more powerful than they are. Lionblaze insists to let Sol teach them and then they will find out who their father is. He feels it was a waste of time coming, and Sol regards them with his amber gaze, meowing that they are not ready to listen yet, and he will be here waiting for them when they are.
