- Jayfeather enters through the tunnel and smells Hollyleaf in Leafpool's den, wondering why she is there and what has told Leafpool, and grows even more shocked when he smells deathberries. He questions Hollyleaf but she tells Jayfeather to leave her be, briefly attacking him and giving him a cuff on the ear. Hollyleaf races out of the den and Jayfeather follows, smelling cat scent, and seeing Lionblaze on the way. Lionblaze and Jayfeather yowls to Hollyleaf to stop as she nears the abandoned Twoleg nest. They beg her to at least talk with them but Hollyleaf confronts her brothers, revealing she killed Ashfur. Jayfeather enters Hollyleaf's mind and sees her stalking Ashfur, waiting for the right moment, and leaping on him when Ashfur was near the stream. Hollyleaf explains that if she was to stay, then it would be a danger to her.
- She runs away into the tunnels, as the cave collapses and rocks tumble over her, burying Hollyleaf. Jayfeather attempts to follow her, but Lionblaze tells him it's no use going in there now. He explains that the warrior code meant everything to Hollyleaf and her life shattered when her identity was revealed, about being half-Clan and a medicine cat's kit. The two decide on not telling ThunderClan the truth on Ashfur's death. Jayfeather decides on a story where Hollyleaf tries to hunt a squirrel but ended up in the tunnels, to leave a good memory on her. They limp back to camp and Jayfeather expresses concern on the prophecy, wondering what would happen, now that Hollyleaf is dead.
- Jayfeather stretches and thinks about yesterday's Clan meeting, where Firestar tells the that they should prove the other Clans they are still strong. Dustpelt raises a question on the other Clans and Firestar admits that Hollyleaf perhaps revealed too much. The gray tabby tom grooms his fur and Lionblaze announces Whitewing's kits' eyes have opened, and he welcomes them to the Clan. Sandstorm comments on their fur and Birchfall tells them they have names now: Dovekit and Ivykit. Brightheart adds that they are nice names with Cloudtail next to her, watching their kit's kits. Jayfeather suddenly remembers the prophecy and jumps on Lionblaze, to his annoyance. He tells Lionblaze that not all hope is gone, as either one of Whitewing's kits could be the third cat.
