"I need to trust Squirrelflight's judgment. She's not a kit anymore, she values Brambleclaw for the warrior he is now. Judging him for being Tigerstar's son would be like judging me for being a kittypet." |

Chapter description[]
- Firestar's call for a Clan meeting halts Leafpool as she returns from checking in on Mousefur's wound. As she makes her way across the clearing, she stops, spotting a few of her Clanmates where Firestar had been looking. She notes that the dawn patrol had returned and reported straight to the ginger leader. Leafpool anxiously wonders if they had discovered more badgers or signs of ShadowClan trying to take territory. To take her mind off of these thoughts, she sits beside Ferncloud. The queen asks after her son, Birchpaw, and the medicine cat tells her that he's healing fine, but it would be a few more days until he could return to his duties. Ferncloud thanks her, and compliments the she-cat's medicine cat skills, making Leafpool wonder the truthfulness as she had abandoned her Clan just days before.
- The Clan slowly begins to gather for the meeting and Leafpool notices Stormfur and Brook hanging at the edge of the clearing. She invites the two over to sit with her, stating that they're welcome to join in while they're staying. As the queens join the clearing, Firestar begins the meeting. He prompts Brambleclaw to report what he and the dawn patrol had found to the Clan. The dark tabby takes his place beside Firestar and reports that they had found a Twoleg trap for foxes. Brambleclaw states that if a cat got their head caught in it, they could be killed. The cats of ThunderClan all share their dismay and angry reactions to the news as Mousefur questions if they found any more of the traps. Brambleclaw manages to silence the Clan with a wave of his tail, the sight has Leafpool noting that she could see him as Clan deputy. Mousefur asks if the patrol had found more traps all over the territory, but Brambleclaw confirms that they had only found the one. Rainwhisker questions why Twolegs would want to trap foxes, and to the Clan's surprise, Daisy, the former horseplace cat steps forward and explains that Twolegs trap them so they don't hunt their birds for fresh-kill.
- Firestar thanks her for the explanation as ThunderClan questions what they are to do with the danger. Brambleclaw states to the worried cats that they had worked out a way to deal with the trap. He calls on Squirrelflight, who joins him in addressing the Clan. Squirrelflight explains that by using a stick to tighten the loop, it solves the danger. Leafpool feels a surge of pride for her sister, and sees their mother, Sandstorm, share a similar expression. Firestar warns that patrols still need to be wary of the traps and to report them if they find more. Brambleclaw adds that if they spring a trap with a stick, they should check to see if Twolegs reset the trap at any point, earning praise from Firestar for his suggestion. The bright ginger tom tells the Clan to be cautious of fox and Twoleg scent together. Rainwhisker makes a point about hunting, which makes Leafpool shiver at the thought of some cat getting caught in the trap. The tabby she-cat gets caught up in her thoughts, but eventually lets her attention return to the meeting as she hears Firestar thank Stormfur and Brook for their hunting following the badger attack. Leafpool listens as they begin organizing hunting patrols and makes a remark about toms as both Brambleclaw and Ashfur offer to hunt. The medicine cat tells Firestar that the pair of warriors both have injuries that she would like to look at, and the leader agrees. He tells her to check over the other warriors as well, and that no cat is to leave camp unless Leafpool approves it.
- As the meeting concludes, many ThunderClan warriors approach Leafpool to be checked over. The medicine cat does her job quickly, sending the cats that were still unfit to her den for further treatment. She checks over Firestar as well after he offers to help with the hunting patrols. Leafpool gives him the okay but gives him some marigold for his scratches. Firestar follows her to her den and remarks about Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw getting over their fight. Leafpool responds that it seemed that the pair figured out what is more important. The leader mentions that he used to find it difficult to have a cat that looked exactly like Tigerstar around. Leafpool realizes that he's talking about Brambleclaw, as he continues to say that he came to realize that Brambleclaw belonged to ThunderClan. The tom states that he also needs to trust Squirrelflight's judgment, that she's no longer a kit, and that Brambleclaw hasn't seen Tigerstar for seasons. For a moment, Leafpool wants to tell her father that the tabby had been seeing Tigerstar, but before she does, Firestar thanks her for returning to ThunderClan. She finishes up applying the marigold to his scratches and watches him and Sandstorm leave camp. The she-cat feels frustrated that she couldn't tell Firestar about her fears of Brambleclaw as he might think she's jealous of Squirrelflight's happiness.
- By sunhigh Leafpool finishes treating most of the injured cats, save for Birchpaw and Cloudtail. She remains tending to the white warrior, telling him to keep off of his paw to stop the bleeding. Despite protesting, Cloudtail thanks her and says he'll rest in the warriors' den. Leafpool goes to warn him, but the sight of Squirrelflight dropping her a vole stops her. The brown tabby notices something is off with her sister and asks what's wrong. Squirrelflight tells her its Ashfur and that the whole Clan must be talking about them. Leafpool notes her sympathy for the gray tom, but Squirrelflight states that she never meant to hurt him and that she thought they had worked out their differences. She asks her sister if she's doing the right thing and Leafpool tells her about the dream she had had by the lake and her interpretation of it. The dream puts Squirrelflight at ease and excites her at the same time.
- She dashes off to tell Brambleclaw about it too, leaving Leafpool as Brightheart and Whitepaw appear. Brightheart tells the medicine cat that Daisy is complaining of a bellyache. Leafpool tells her that she'll need watermint. Cloudtail offers to take the herbs to her, causing his mate to snap at him before Leafpool can comment about him resting. The she-cat and Whitepaw leave to look for juniper, leaving Cloudtail bewildered. Leafpool rolls her eyes but lets him take the herbs to Daisy. In the clearing, Leafpool spots Squirrelflight beside Brambleclaw with their tails twined. The medicine cat suppresses a sigh as she wonders if she was right to tell her sister about the dream.
