Chapter description[]

Talltail runs across the Thunderpath, wondering which way the rogues would have traveled. As he travels through a field, a huge monster moves past him, and he continues to slink along the hedges. Confused by the unfamiliar landscape, he sits for a moment, realizing that this must be the Twolegplace between the Thunderpath and Highstones. He pauses to hunt, before two dogs appear and begin to chase him. He hides on top of a pile of dried grass in a wooden den, relieved when the dogs are called back by their Twoleg.
Deciding to rest for the night, he makes a small nest in the hay, wondering what his Clan was doing as he drifted to sleep. Once he wakes up the next morning, he hunts for himself, before moving on from the wooden den. He continues to travel throughout the day, trekking along a grassy path. He smells cat scent, imagining it to be Sparrow, but instead nearly attacks a gray tom, who looks at him in shock.
Talltail asks the gray tom if he knows where the rogues are, and the tom reveals that he saw a group of cats traveling towards the sunrise, potentially staying in a dark gray den. Talltail stalks off, intent on finding Sparrow.
