Talltail continues his journey, crossing into ShadowClan territory, past the Carrionplace. The rain turns to hail, and he hides in a hole in a tree, waiting out the storm while dozing off. He wakes to a ShadowClan patrol nearby, with several cats weaving around the tree he's hidden in. Talltail scrambles up the trunk, hiding in some of the highest branches as the cats below continue to search. One mentions the rogues, saying that they had chased them off, before heading towards the Thunderpath to continue their search.

He scrambles out of the tree, quickly leaving Clan territory and finding himself in a small, tree-ringed clearing. As he rests, he dreams of Sandgorse, before quickly waking. He continues to travel, pausing to hunt before hearing a dog growling behind him.
