Chapter description[]

Talltail stretches and leaps up onto a higher ledge, touching his nose to something cold. He tries to crack it, but to no avail. Jake meows the window isn't open, making Talltail think "window" is a weird word. Jake meows that is where he looks out for Clan cats, and Talltail asks if ThunderClan territory is near. Jake tells him yes, and he will be let out soon. A Twoleg walks in, holding something blue and floppy, giving it to Talltail, goes to Jake, and gives him a stick. The Twoleg walks away, and Jake asks what's wrong. Talltail eventually meows he wants to leave this place, confusing Jake. The black-and-white tom reminds Jake he needs to go on a quest, explaining he is looking for a rogue, as he killed his father Sandgorse. Jake concludes Talltail is seeking revenge, and he needs to leave, meowing he can help get out, but he would come along. Talltail is confused, meowing he doesn't need Jake, but the kittypet insists. Talltail and Jake later agree, and Jake meows the only way out is to be friendly to a Twoleg. Talltail is doubtful, but Jake reassures him it is fine.
The black-and-white tom steps out, walking around the Twoleg's legs. Jake tells him to purr, and the Twoleg puts food in his stone, which Jake tells Talltail to eat. Talltail begs the Twoleg to leave, and it opens the flap. As it opens, Talltail bounds outside with Jake following, and the black-and-white tom meows to follow him, as they can't be seen by a ThunderClan patrol. Talltail reminds the flame-colored kittypet to show the way to the other side of the Twolegplace, just as a gray she-cat, Quince, greets them from above. Jake leaps beside her, introducing Talltail and how he ate a poisoned rat, but Talltail stopped him, meowing he is a WindClan warrior. Quince asks why is he here, and Jake explains he is on a mission. Talltail meows they should get going, not wanting Quince to follow, and he wonders if he will be gossiped about between the Clans. Jake leads them to a path with red stone, telling him to be cautious about the glass. He turns, and Talltail is alarmed that he is taken to a Thunderpath, and Jake meows he will take the lead.
Between two dens, Jake halts, and Talltail hears dogs. Jake soon allows them to continue, explaining every time he goes by, the dogs growl. The kittypet asks what is Talltail's mission, and he replies he is looking for rogues, and Jake meows to go to a cat who knows where to go. Talltail asks where does the Twolegplace stop, and Jake meows they are near the end, but they need to find that cat. At the end, Talltail sees flames and thinks there is a fire, but Jake meows they are keeping themselves warm, but they aren't too friendly. Talltail feels like being in ShadowClan territory, unsheathing his claws as Jake lead him into the dark. He hears Jake telling him to slow down, seeing a tom and a she-cat, Pixie. They say Talltail and Jake are trespassers, and the tom meows to take them to Jay, and the black-and-white tom thinks Jake lead them into a trap.
