"The Tribe and the Clans are like two trees that have grown around each other. Both are strong, and they are intertwined, but each has its own future. Still, the Clan cats will always be welcomed by the Tribe."
— Stoneteller to Tawnypelt and Dovewing about the Clans and the Tribe in Tawnypelt's Clan, page 195

Teller of the Pointed Stones, more commonly known as Stoneteller, is a long-legged,[4] wiry,[1] dark[5] stone-[6]gray tom[5] with amber eyes.[7]

Teller of the Pointed Stones is the current Stoneteller of the Tribe of Rushing Water. He was born as Crag Where Eagles Nest, also known as Crag, to an unnamed she-cat and had a brother, Talon, and a sister, Brook. However, their mother was killed by Sharptooth. Crag was the leader of the cave-guards, and although initially hesitant about the Clan cats, he grew to accept them. After the prior Stoneteller died, Jayfeather chose Crag as his successor. Moons later, Stoneteller aided Shadowkit in his visions when Dovewing and Tawnypelt asked for his assistance.

The New Prophecy

"Crag came down perilously close to the edge of the rock, regaining his balance with the ease of long practice. Stormfur's respect for him increased; the courage and speed with which the cave-guard had attacked the fierce bird matched any skills possessed by the best Clan warriors."
—Stormfur's thoughts about Crag Moonrise, page 141
Crag Where Eagles Nest is the leader of the cave-guards. He is suspicious of the Clan cats when they arrive in the mountains, but takes them to Stoneteller. He demonstrates to the Clan cats how they hunt in the mountains, with cave-guards watching the skies while the prey hunters search for prey. When Brambleclaw and the others leave, Crag forces Stormfur to stay as the Tribe believes he is the silver cat who will save them from Sharptooth. The Clan cats rescue Stormfur and form a plan to destroy the creature. However, Feathertail sacrifices herself to save the Tribe. When the Clans rest in the cave during the Great Journey, Crag briefly befriends Leafpaw.

Power of Three

"But think of what we risk losing. All our traditions, everything that makes us who we are. Instead, we'll spend all our time running around trying to remember which rocks belong to us."
—Crag to the Tribe cats Outcast, page 238
Rogues terrorize the Tribe by stealing prey and territory, and Stoneteller prevents the Tribe from intentionally fighting back as it is against their customs. When Stormfur and Brook return to the Tribe from exile with Clan cats, Crag is hesitant that their help will turn the Tribe into more like a Clan. The Tribe chooses to fight Stripes and his rogues, and Crag helps Brambleclaw formulate a plan of attack. After the battle, he praises Lionpaw for his bravery.

Omen of the Stars

"The Tribe of Endless Hunting had known that this would happen. They had faith in him to make the right choice—for the second time. The Healer mustn't be too young, he thought; the Tribe needed a cat with experience and courage, who had seen these cats through their darkest times and had faith that they could survive. A cat who would put his Tribe before himself, and work tirelessly to keep them safe."
—Jayfeather's thoughts before picking the new Stoneteller Sign of the Moon, page 295
His sister, Brook, has given birth to Stormfur's kits, Pine and Lark, and their brother, Talon, is now an elder. Crag welcomes Squirrelflight and the others when they arrive near the cave. He invites Dovewing and Foxleap on a patrol. They witness an eagle attacking Flora, one of the rogues, and agree to help her. Swoop is carried off trying to save Foxleap. Afterwards, the current Stoneteller dies without naming a successor, Jayfeather names Crag his replacement. Crag, although hesitant, accepts and steps down as a cave-guard to become the new Healer.

"Shadowkit was sent here for a reason. Even though I don't quite understand either, I think we need to listen to him. We must leave the cave."
—Stoneteller to his Tribemates Tawnypelt's Clan, page 174
In Tawnypelt's Clan, Tawnypelt, Dovewing and Shadowkit travel to the mountains upon Shadowkit receiving visions of impending dangers for the Tribe. Stoneteller warmly greets them, and he and Shadowkit spend many hours in the Cave of Pointed Stones interpreting signs from the Tribe of Endless Hunting. That night, Shadowkit screams for everyone to evacuate the cave, and Stoneteller believes him. He calmly reassures his Tribemates of Shadowkit's conviction, and helps to save their cave from a fallen tree. He helps Shadowkit control his visions so they would be less painful before bidding farewell to the Clan cats.

"Crag you already know. He is the leader of our cave-guards, the cats who protect this place."
—Stoneteller formally introducing Crag to Brambleclaw and his patrol Moonrise, page 117

"Over there. You'll find a sleeping hollow ready for you. It won't be so bad. You'll kill Sharptooth for us—the Tribe of Endless Hunting says so—and then you can leave if you still want to."
—Crag to Stormfur Moonrise, page 158

Crag: "You can't take him with you. His destiny is to stay here and save our Tribe from Sharptooth. We will care for him and honor him."
Crowpaw: "So that makes it all right, then?"
—Crag and Crowpaw Moonrise, page 180

Crag: "Farewell. I wish we could have met in a happier time. Our Tribes have much to teach other other."
Squirrelpaw: "There's nothing I want to learn from you."
Brambleclaw: "I wish that too. But there cannot be friendship between us while you keep our friend a prisoner."
Crag: "That is our fate and his, as our warrior ancestors have promised. Just as yours have made a promise to you."
—Crag, Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw as the Tribe cats force them away Moonrise, page 180

Crag: "You're an apprentice, right? What are you hoping to be? A prey-hunter or a cave-guard?"
Stormfur: "The Tribe divides its duties. The cave-guards protect the Tribe; the prey-hunters feed them. Brook is a prey-hunter and Crag is a cave-guard."
Leafpaw: "Then why are you coming hunting?"
Crag: "Who's going to watch the skies while you've got your eyes on the prey?"
Sorreltail: "In the forest, we could scent for danger and hunt at the same time."
Crag: "Really? Well, how do you scent an eagle flying a mountain's height above your head?"
—Crag to Leafpaw and Sorreltail Dawn, pages 310-311

Brambleclaw: "Yes, Crag. What do you want to say?"
Crag: "We have know each other a long time, Brambleclaw. I was the first Tribe cat you met when you dragged yourselves out of the pool, all those moons ago. I'm a cave-guard, and I fought in the great battle beside Stormfur. No cat can say that I'm afraid to fight. But I'm telling you now that you're wrong."
Brambleclaw: "Why?"
Crag: "Because you're trying to turn us into a Clan. We're not. We are the Tribe."
Brambleclaw: "But this is the only way to survive! You've never had to share your hunting grounds with other cats before. You can't live here like prisoners, afraid to venture out in search of food."
—Brambleclaw and Crag Outcast, pages 237 - 238

Jayfeather: "Crag Where Eagles Nest, stand forward."
Crag: "Me?"
Jayfeather: "From this moment on, you will be known as the Teller of the Pointed Stones. Others will come after you, moon upon moon upon moon. Choose them well, train them well, and trust the future of your Tribe of them."
Crag: "I am honored to have been chosen. I will serve my Tribe until the end of my days."
Bird: "Greetings, Stoneteller. May the Tribe of Endless Hunting Watch over you and send you their wisdom."
—Jayfeather appointing the new Stoneteller Sign of the Moon, page 295

"Have faith. The Tribe of Endless Hunting chose Shadowkit to save us. If we weren't safe, he would be awake."
—Stoneteller calmly to his cats Tawnypelt's Clan, page 185
