| "You did what you could. They have our land now, which is what they wanted. I just hope it brings them the peace that they're looking for." |
| — Tempest doubting the Clans will have peace in Squirrelflight's Hope, page 408 |
Tempest is a long-furred,[6] well-muscled and broad-shouldered,[7] tabby she-cat with wide paws.[4][7]
Tempest is a Sister under the leaderships of Moonlight and Snow, and mother to Stone and Grass. Tempest developed respect for Squirrelflight and Leafstar when they were held prisoner in the Sisters' camp during the group's stay in the lake territories for a couple days. During the Clan cats' stay, Tempest's sons came of age and were sent away by the Sisters to wander the land. When Sunrise was badly injured by Stonewing in a border skirmish with ShadowClan, Tempest, Snow, and Hawk brought Sunrise to ThunderClan to ask Squirrelflight if their medicine cat could treat her. Unfortunately, Bramblestar refused to treat Sunrise, and Tempest, Snow, and Hawk were not allowed to talk or go to their campmate while in ThunderClan's camp. Sunrise, Tempest, Snow and Hawk were sent back to the Sisters with barely more than a couple herbs from Leafpool. Later, Tempest fought the Clans in a battle that killed Moonlight. SkyClan agreed to shelter Moonlight's newly orphaned kits, and Snow and Tempest stayed with Squirrel, Leaf, and Moon in SkyClan to help look after them. After the kits were old enough to travel, Tempest left the lake with the rest of the Sisters.

- Moon gets caught in a trap, and Rootspring tells Tempest to get the Sisters away, which she does once he reassures her that Moon will be okay. After the Sisters summon the spirits to search out Bramblestar, Sunrise and Snow comment on the spirits' aggression, and Tempest and Moon nod in agreement. Tempest notes that she had seen dead leaves falling, and Rootspring says that he spotted Ashfur. Tigerstar pushes past Tempest as he responds to Rootspring in shock. Later, in the SkyClan camp, Rootspring sees Tempest talking to Moon.
A Light in the Mist[]
- Tempest hurries away to fetch cobwebs for Graystripe with the other Sisters.

Squirrelflight's Hope[]
- "At least you stood up for us."
- ―Tempest to Squirrelflight Squirrelflight's Hope, chapter 29
- Tempest shows Leafstar and Squirrelflight to their nests where they will sleep, and she apologizes on Snow's behalf for her hostility, citing her protectiveness. Tempest assigns Snow to guard Leafstar and Squirrelflight, but offers to assist the two she-cats should they need anything further. The following day, Tempest helps her children, Stone and Grass, to dig a large hole in the ground. When Tempest says that they need vines, Moonlight sends Snow and Creek to fetch more. Tempest seems sad as she watches Stone and Grass disappear around the back of the den, and Squirrelflight wonders how the she-cat raised the two kits on her own. Moonlight is shocked, saying that Tempest had the Sisters to help. Squirrelflight is confused about how Tempest feels for her mate, and Moonlight explains that the Sisters prefer not to have toms around, and that Tempest chose to stay with the Sisters rather than her mate.
- Moonlight notes that Grass and Stone are old enough to leave the Sisters, and Squirrelflight wonders if Tempest will miss them. Moonlight says that she will at first, but there will be future litters to care for. While Squirrelflight and Moonlight are eating, the Claw Stars point to the sunset, showing that it is time for Grass and Stone to leave. Watching Tempest feed her kits, Squirrelflight asks if she knows, and Moonlight says that she would have noticed the stars. As they are saying goodbye to Grass and Stone, Tempest approaches them with grief in her eyes, and she touches her muzzle to Grass' cheek. She tells him to look after himself, and tells Stone to be happy. Stone promises that they will remember her, and Tempest returns to her Sisters, with Hawk and Snow pressing against her. As the two toms leave, Tempest leans on Snow. That night, as ThunderClan and SkyClan show up to rescue Squirrelflight and Leafstar, Snow and Tempest hiss at the patrols.
- When Snow brings Squirrelflight and her patrol to camp after Sunrise is injured, Tempest, Hawk, and Sunrise approach them. Blossomfall believes it is a trap, surprising Tempest, who questions her assumption. Tempest then ignores her, instead asking Squirrelflight if they want to help Sunrise. They decide to take her back to the ThunderClan camp, but when Squirrelflight tells them to go home, Snow, Hawk, and Tempest demand that they come with Sunrise. Squirrelflight relents, telling Hawk and Tempest to carry Sunrise, and they make their way to camp slowly. Once they arrive, Mousewhisker and Larksong help Hawk and Tempest lay Sunrise down in the clearing.
- Bramblestar decides to send Jayfeather and Alderheart to speak to StarClan about treating Sunrise, but Tempest protests that they do not have time. In the meantime, the ThunderClan cats treat the Sisters with hostility, and when Thornclaw asks if they have to share prey with them, Tempest retorts that the Sisters can hunt for themselves. Jayfeather and Alderheart return with a message from StarClan that the Clans must be united, causing ThunderClan to argue amongst themselves. Tempest finally declares that they will take Sunrise home instead to be with her Sisters while she dies. However, when Squirrelflight insists that they cannot let Sunrise die, Bramblestar gives in at last, and Mousewhisker and Twigbranch aid Tempest and Hawk in carrying Sunrise to the medicine den.
- Upon returning from the Gathering, Squirrelflight warns Tempest, Hawk, and Snow that they need to leave, as Tigerstar has threatened war. Tempest attempts to argue that the Sisters had defended themselves, and she questions why the border skirmish should lead to war, expressing regret for hurting Strikestone. As the Sisters are leaving with Sunrise, Larksong wishes Tempest well, and Squirrelflight accompanies them back to their home. When they reach the Sisters' camp, Tempest calls an alarm and helps guide Sunrise into camp. Soon after, the Sisters explain to Squirrelflight their ability to see and speak to the dead, and Tempest notes a dead she-cat that she often speaks with. When Squirrelflight asks about it, Tempest asks why the dead would know the future, and she seems nervous when Squirrelflight remarks that the Clans outnumber the Sisters.
- When Squirrelflight takes a patrol to check for illness amongst the Sisters, Tempest questions their presence and why Squirrelflight brought a large patrol. Moonlight explains meadow saffron to the ThunderClan cats, and Tempest tells them that the Sisters' ancestors had had Twolegs who kept the herb. Later, Bramblestar sends Squirrelflight back for more information on meadow saffron, and she meets Tempest and informs her of Larksong's death, and that they saved Sparkpelt. Tempest sympathizes as she leads the patrol to camp, saying that Moonlight is doing well. She retrieves coltsfoot for the Sisters' ceremony for Larksong's son, Flickerkit, and she helps perform the ceremony. Afterwards, she tells Squirrelflight that they saw Flickerkit, describing him.
- Squirrelflight brings Tree to speak with Moonlight, and Tempest offers them prey, which Squirrelflight rejects. When Moonlight begins kitting, Tempest and Hawk help her deliver her kits, with Tempest looking after the first-born kit. Leafpool brings the second kit to her, and Tempest comments that the she-kit is a fighter. Once the third kit, a tom, is born, Leafpool places him beside Tempest with his sisters. Soon after, the Clans arrive to confront the Sisters, and when Moonlight asks for her kits, Tempest guides them to her. Squirrelflight tells Leafpool to help Tempest and Snow move the kits, but Moonlight refuses to leave at the Clans' demand, and a fight breaks out, with Tempest attacking Reedwhisker.
- After she returns to the living, Squirrelflight visits the Sisters and finds Tempest caring for Moonlight's tom-kit. When he escapes from his grooming to play with his littermates, Tempest remarks that he will cause trouble. She tells Squirrelflight that the Sisters will leave soon to prevent Moonlight's kits from becoming warriors, and when Squirrelflight expresses her condolences for Moonlight's death, Tempest says that the Clans got what they wanted. She acknowledges Squirrelflight's help, and when the ThunderClan deputy is about to leave with her patrol, Tempest reminds her that she did not ask for the kits' names.
Ivypool's Heart[]
- Snow sends Sunrise and Moon to retrieve Tempest to speak with Ivypool's group, and when they arrive, Ivypool recalls that Tempest had helped the Clans against Ashfur alongside the rest of the Sisters. As they discuss the death of Bristlefrost, Ivypool despairs that Bristlefrost's spirit cannot be with her because she died in the Dark Forest. Tempest argues that all spirits have a place where they exist. Shortly after, while the cats eat together, the Sisters talk about their travels, and Moon remarks that Tempest had found a kittypet named Sweetums. Tempest defends him, becoming dreamy, and when Moon laughs about his appearance and name, Tempest laughs with her. She talks about how Sweetums had wanted to join the Sisters, but they do not allow toms to travel with them.

Tree's Roots[]
- After coming back from trying to talk to the land, Earth sees Tempest and Furze returning from a hunting patrol with voles. Later that night, she says farewell with the rest of the Sisters at Snail and Chestnut's ceremony. When a storm rolls in after saying goodbye to the toms, Earth searches desperately for Stream, stumbling into a bush that he thinks may be the same one Tempest and Furze had been sleeping in. Two days later, every cat has scrapes and bruises, with Tempest having a sprained leg after pulling Ice from mud. Moons later, in the middle of a fight against rogues, Earth tries to remember battle moves that Tempest and Snow had taught him. When Earth finds the Sisters' scent trail from when they left their camp, he detects Tempest among them.
