Chapter description[]
- Jagged Peak's patrol returns to Tall Shadow's camp, injured and without the Blazing Star. Jagged Peak dejectedly tells Gray Wing that he failed to collect the herb, and Clear Sky explains One Eye's attack. Surprisingly, Gray Wing is pleased, as the patrol has given One Eye the impression that they are scared, allowing them to move on with his plan. He sends the patrol to see Cloud Spots and reassures Jagged Peak that he has helped. At sunset, Tall Shadow calls the cats together, and Gray Wing explains his plan: they will attack One Eye in an empty clearing, away from other cats. Thunder starts to speak against this, suggesting that One Eye will be satisfied with Clear Sky's forest, but when the others reject this, he warns that they should not kill One Eye.
- As they are deliberating over killing One Eye, Star Flower announces herself and offers her skills in battle, calling attention to Thunder. Lightning Tail rejects her, trying to hide their battle plans, and Thunder argues with the group, trying to stop her from leaving. Star Flower leaves anyway, and Thunder is furious with the others. Gray Wing continues with the plan, saying that they will attack One Eye from all sides and can get some of Clear Sky's cats to help. As the cats wonder how to lure One Eye to the moor, Clear Sky volunteers himself to challenge him to a one-on-one fight. He wonders if coming together to fight One Eye is what the spirit-cats had wanted them to do.
