Chapter description[]
- Thunder wakes up and prepares to visit Wind Runner and River Ripple to ask for help against One Eye. He spots Gray Wing and approaches him, asking him why he left, and Gray Wing warns Thunder to stop depending on him. Before Gray Wing can tell Thunder whether or not he will stay, Lightning Tail declares that he is accompanying Thunder, to Thunder's brief annoyance. As the two friends leave, they argue over Star Flower, and Thunder takes offense to Lightning Tail's remark that she is not one of them, reminding him of Thunder's past and asserting his leadership. They soon find Wind Runner, and Thunder tells her about the Blazing Star and One Eye's attacks. Wind Runner refuses to help Clear Sky, even when Thunder questions her kits' health.
- As they leave, another confrontation occurs when Lightning Tail says that his loyalty belongs to their group, and when Thunder accuses him of jealousy over Star Flower, Lightning Tail attacks him. They argue briefly over Star Flower again, until Lightning Tail decides to focus on finding help. The pair cross the river using the stepping stones, and on the opposite side, River Ripple finds them, having heard them. Once Thunder explains the situation, River Ripple agrees to help, warning that they will need to kill One Eye. Thunder suggests asking some of Clear Sky's cats for help, but River Ripple warns them not to, for the forest cats' safety. He cryptically warns Thunder to be cautious as well. Thunder and Lightning Tail head home, only to find Star Flower at camp. She tells them that she found some Blazing Star to gather, and Thunder finds himself feeling unexcited, though he agrees to go with her. On the way, he tells her about Gray Wing's plan against One Eye.
