Chapter description[]
- Thunder is resting with Tall Shadow, waiting for news about Holly. He recalls how he had caught up with Gray Wing's Blazing Star patrol and helped gather the herb, and he asks Tall Shadow if she would have stayed in the marsh. Instead of answering, she comments on Jagged Peak's skills as a mate and father. Just then, Holly's kits begin arriving, and after some time, Cloud Spots announces the birth of her three kits, though she is still sick. Thunder retreats to his nest to sleep, and is soon woken up by Gray Wing to go to the four trees. Thunder can hear Rainswept Flower's and Turtle Tail's voices, and they head off. They find the other leaders at the four trees, along with Rainswept Flower and Turtle Tail, and Turtle Tail reveals that they are dreaming.
- Turtle Tail asks them to recall what the spirit-cats had said previously, and Thunder says that they have fulfilled the spirit-cats' order to unite or die. Gray Wing remembers that the spirit-cats had said to grow and spread. A couple of the leaders are agitated by the spirit-cats' vague words, and Turtle Tail provides another hint that cats have five claws, before she and Rainswept Flower vanish and Thunder awakens. Gray Wing tells Thunder that he has an idea, but wishes to speak with the other leaders. Tall Shadow rushes over to them, asking about the dream, but Gray Wing suddenly feels a tingling sensation and says that they should go to the four trees. They again find the other leaders gathered there, and they begin to discuss the message, with River Ripple reminding them that they are lucky to have been chosen by the spirit-cats. The cats begin to fight over the meanings of the messages, and Thunder interrupts, encouraging them to work together. The leaders agree to work together and help one another, and Gray Wing suggests that he understands how they can grow and spread.
