They are heavily outnumbered but are rescued by a ThunderClan patrol. The cats continue to fight, and [[Sandstorm]] almost falls off of the edge but Firestar saves her before she can tumble off. A couple seconds later Graystripe lets out a howl and [[Whiteclaw]] ,the cat he had been fighting, falls over the edge. Graystripe attempts to save him but the RiverClan cat falls anyways. Leopardstar who was Whiteclaw's mate was infuriated and retreated hissing curses at a horrfied Graystripe. This led to a deep rift between Graystripe and Leopardstar. After the RiverClan patrol leaves the ThunderClan cats go back to their dens and the WindClan cats return to their own territory.

Several cats lined up across the territory and led the dogs to the Gorge. Firestar was the last cat in line and he was almost to the cliff when he was attacked by [[Tigerstar]]. The ShadowClan leader then leaped away and the dogs were upon the Thunderclan deputy. Firestar would have died but [[Bluestar]] hurled herself at the lead dog and the dog went over the edge. The dog managed to sink its teeth into Bluestar's leg and pulled her under too. Firestar leaped into the Gorge to rescue his drowning leader and he almost drowned as well but [[Mistyfoot]] and [[Stonefur]] helped him out. They pulled Bluestar out and put her on the shore where she died a noble death. After this the Gorge is not mentioned much.
