| "I suspect there are things you could tell me if I asked you to, but I won't ask. I trust you, Bristlefrost. You're a brave and intelligent warrior, and I know you'll make the best decisions for your Clan. And for a certain SkyClan tom. Do what you must-and may StarClan light your path." |

Chapter description[]
- Wanting to plunge in, Bristlefrost stares at the Moonpool, knowing Rootspring is still stuck in the Place of No Stars. She tells Mothwing that the Clans cannot give up on the SkyClan warrior. The gray she-cat continues, stating that she believes Rootspring is still alive, but thinks that Rootspring will need some cat to help him. As she separates herself from the Moonpool, she catches glimpses of Tigerstar and Tree's disbelieving stares. Bristlefrost notes that both of them don't believe that she is the correct cat for the job. The ThunderClan warrior starts to pace restlessly again, but is stopped by Graystripe and Ivypool. Upon seeing the pair, Bristlefrost hopes her mother can help her reach the Dark Forest.
- The young warrior goes down to greet Ivypool and Graystripe. As they check up on each other, the gray ThunderClan leader asks Bristlefrost what had happened since he had left. The gray warrior states that Shadowsight had returned with numerous injuries, and Rootspring is still fighting in the Place of No Stars. Graystripe leaves Ivypool and Bristlefrost to exchange words with Mothwing, leaving the kin to themselves.
- Tigerstar brushes past them as Bristlefrost starts the conversation by saying that Ivypool will not like what she is about to say. She then states that she had gone to the Dark Forest. From her mother's reaction, her eyes widening, Bristlefrost could tell that Ivypool had not thought about that. The silver-and-white tabby wants to know how the gray she-cat had done it. Bristlefrost responds by saying that she did what Harestar said, and what Mothwing told Willowshine to do.
- The gray ThunderClan warrior reveals that she had not stayed long, as she couldn't, and she manages to convince Ivypool to tell her how to stay longer. Before the silver tabby reveals how to get in the Dark Forest and stay there, the pair talk about Bristlefrost's relationship with Rootspring, and how they had already talked things through about each of them staying in their own Clans. Ivypool reveals that Bristlefrost has to think really dark thoughts, giving the example of how she thought about the fact that she was jealous of Dovewing being better than her.
- Before Bristlefrost can compliment her mother's bravery, Ivypool tells her that Graystripe is approaching them, and that she must not tell the Clan leader, as if he says no, she cannot go. The gray elderly tom states that Mothwing seems to have the situation under control, and that him and Ivypool should go back to their Clan. Before leaving, Graystripe turns to Bristlefrost, saying that even though he could get answers out of her, he's not going to because he trusts her to do what's right for her Clan. Her mother and her leader leave Bristlefrost, and with new-found determination, she goes to Shadowsight for advice.
- The medicine cat states that maybe Bristlefrost not being able to stay in the Dark Forest long is a good thing, for he himself found dark thoughts finding a way inside his mind. The gray she-cat comforts the gray tabby tom, reminding him that he is a good cat, not a bad one. Bristlefrost then impulsively asks if Shadowsight could accompany her as a friend, but Tigerstar outrageously answer no for him, asking Mothwing as ShadowClan's senior medicine cat, to go.
- Mothwing states that after Willowshine had died, she had been thinking of returning to her own Clan, and her relationship with StarClan isn't the greatest either, seconding Shadowsight entering the Dark Forest again. Shadowsight suggests checking for advice from the Sisters, and Tree sets off, going to find them. Snow arrives with two more Sisters, and Tree states that Snow must help Rootspring get out of the Dark Forest, the latter being kin of the Sisters. Snow agrees to, but states that the Sisters and their Clans must go their separate ways after this time. Tree states that after this, all debts will be assumed paid. While the Sisters prepare, Tree notices Bristlefrost getting hopeful, and states that this plan has a very slim chance of working, asking her if she was sure she is ready to go in the Dark Forest for his son's sake. Bristlefrost replies that she is, knowing that the tom she loves is in danger.
