Redtail , the ThunderClan deputy, calls a retreat as ThunderClan is overwhelmed.The ThunderClan leader , Bluestar , discusses ThunderClan's survival with her medicine cat , Spottedleaf .
Spottedleaf is given a prophecy : Fire alone can save our Clan . A kittypet , Rusty , dreams of catching a mouse before waking up and leaving his Twoleg nest .
Rusty ventures into the forest, only to be attacked by Graypaw , a ThunderClan apprentice .
Graypaw stops when Rusty fights back, and he tells Rusty about the four Clans: ThunderClan, WindClan , ShadowClan , and RiverClan.
Bluestar and Graypaw's mentor , Lionheart , find the pair, and Bluestar is impressed with Rusty.
Bluestar offers Rusty the opportunity to join ThunderClan.
Rusty decides to join ThunderClan, and Lionheart and Whitestorm lead him to ThunderClan camp .
Longtail challenges Rusty and the two fight until Longtail rips off Rusty's collar.Bluestar makes Rusty an apprentice, Firepaw.
A ThunderClan battle patrol returns from Sunningrocks with Redtail's body.
Tigerclaw explains that Oakheart killed Redtail, and that he killed Oakheart in turn.
Tigerclaw's apprentice, Ravenpaw , is injured .
Bluestar names Lionheart the new ThunderClan deputy and assigns Graypaw to Darkstripe .
Graypaw wakes Firepaw for training with Lionheart and Tigerclaw the next morning.
Lionheart and Tigerclaw show them ThunderClan's territory .
Lionheart explains that the Clans meet at Fourtrees each full moon in peace.
Firepaw is teased by Sandpaw and Dustpaw for his kittypet roots.

Over time, Firepaw looks after Yellowfang while Bluestar trains him.

When they groups meet, Nightpelt begs ThunderClan for help.
ThunderClan and their ShadowClan allies attack ShadowClan's camp.
Firepaw fights Clawface, and Whitestorm stops Firepaw from killing him.
Brokenstar fights Yellowfang, revealing that he murdered Raggedstar and the kits.
Brokenstar is driven out.
The kits are saved, and Yellowfang decides to return to ThunderClan as their medicine cat.
The ThunderClan patrol takes the kits home.
Firepaw explains how Yellowfang helped them.
Bluestar invites Yellowfang to be ThunderClan's new medicine cat, and she accepts.
Firepaw reports that Ravenpaw was killed by ShadowClan.

Fireheart tells Graystripe that he wants to tell Bluestar about Tigerclaw killing Redtail.
Graystripe cautions him about his lack of evidence.
Spottedleaf comes to Fireheart in a dream, giving him the fire prophecy.
Graystripe wakes him to see Bluestar.
Bluestar tasks Fireheart and Graystripe with finding WindClan and bringing them home.
The two warriors find WindClan's camp and follow the scent trail.
They find WindClan in a tunnel under a Thunderpath and inform them of Brokenstar's exile.
After some traveling, they rest at Barley's farm with Barley and Ravenpaw.
WindClan makes it to camp and Tallstar sends Fireheart and Graystripe home, escorted by Onewhisker and Deadfoot .
Back home, Fireheart and Graystripe report to Bluestar.
Fireheart and Graystripe take their apprentices to Sunningrocks to hunt.
They find that the river is frozen over.
Graystripe falls through the ice and is saved by a RiverClan warrior, Silverstream .
Fireheart trains Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw, and he finds Graystripe missing in camp.
He confronts Graystripe when he returns, but Graystripe says he needed peace.
Fireheart and Sandpaw begin to bond and spend time together.
After Fireheart confides in her about Graystripe, Yellowfang tells him to gather lavender with Sandpaw.
Sandpaw apologizes for teasing Fireheart.
They are warned by Onewhisker that RiverClan and ShadowClan have attacked WindClan.
Bluestar sends a battle patrol to help WindClan, and Yellowfang tells her to stay behind.
Tigerclaw's patrol enters the battle first, including Fireheart.
Fireheart is confronted by Silverstream, but Graystripe pulls him away.
Graystripe confesses that he and Silverstream are in love.
Fireheart snaps that they are breaking the warrior code, and returns to the battle.
Whitestorm and Tallstar fight Nightstar.
The deputy of RiverClan, Leopardfur, attacks Fireheart.
She reveals that the river is poisoned by Twolegs.
Tigerclaw fails to help Fireheart, but Graystripe does.
Tigerclaw defeats Crookedstar, and ShadowClan and RiverClan flee.
ThunderClan returns home.
Darkstripe and Tigerclaw note that Fireheart allowed Silverstream to escape.
Graystripe thanks Fireheart for keeping his secret, and Fireheart promises to support him.
