I was raised in ShadowClan when it was falling apart. The cats there turned on one another. When they faced problems, they were no better than rogues. But SkyClan is different. You took me in and welcomed me. You taught me how cats can overcome even the worst times. You lost your home, you lost one another, but you found one another again and kept on going. I'm proud to be a SkyClan cat. I would never want to belong anywhere else."

Chapter description

Violetshine pads after her dejected Clanmates through the heavy rain. Annoyed, she wonders if Leafstar even knows the way to the gorge, and everyone simply follows Leafstar without question. Violetshine longs for Tree and Twigbranch, and Sunnypaw and the other apprentices ask if they can explore; they race ahead when their mentors agree. She then wonders why Tree stayed, and nostalgia washes her when she sees the hill where they first met. Still caught in thoughts of Tree, Reedclaw tells Violetshine that they are going up the slope instead, and the tabby goes to tell the apprentices. Reedclaw then yowls to her and Plumwillow that Sunnypaw is sinking in mud. Tinycloud, Sparrowpelt, and Violetshine race to the terrified apprentices. Sunnypaw flails in the mud, and Hawkwing yowls to find a long stick. A few cats go to find one while Tinycloud reassures her kit. The cats soon return and hurry to rescue the apprentice, ordering her to grab onto the stick. Sunnypaw desperately grasps it with her claws, and hauls herself up. Hawkwing tells the warriors to pull the stick up, and gradually, she is within reach. Tinycloud drags Sunnypaw onto the grass.

The Clan is anxious as Sunnypaw collapses, and Frecklewish reassures them that the apprentice will be fine. Plumwillow hurries to her side, and Tinycloud says that they are in an unfamiliar territory. The dark gray she-cat meows that they should not be traveling in bad weather, far from both the gorge and the lake, and Harrybrook and Macgyver also voice their protests. Sunnypaw, Quailpaw, and Nectarpaw say that the lake is their home, and Leafstar angrily snaps that the other Clans had no respect for them, and they should not sacrifice themselves for a prophecy that is not theirs. Violetshine notices how tired her Clanmates look, and states that SkyClan will always face problems together and that they are the only true Clan she ever knew; she continues that she is proud to be one of them. Her Clanmates seem more hopeful, and they continue walking. Violetshine notices how the storm is not getting better, but then thinks that they will get through it, and she would have to keep moving forward even if it means leaving Tree forever.
