"It seems strange that StarClan would lead a Clan to the lake and yet ask only one of the Clans to sacrifice territory to keep them here. Surely StarClan meant for every Clan to give up land, not just ShadowClan. What is stopping us from shifting all the borders to accommodate SkyClan? Why should ShadowClan be alone in giving up prey to feed other cats?"

Chapter description[]

Violetshine arrives at the Gathering with Tree by her side. She asks him if he is nervous, but the yellow tom replies that mediating is his job. She catches Tawnypelt's eye, but the ShadowClan deputy acts coldly towards her. All of the Clans are friendly mingling with each other except for ShadowClan, who seem more confident now with their new leader. She walks toward Twigbranch to talk to her sister, but the leaders start the Gathering.
Bramblestar reveals that Alderheart is currently treating Puddleshine for an infection in ThunderClan's camp and promises to return their medicine cat soon. Tigerstar reports the rebuilding of the old ShadowClan camp and announces three new apprentices: Blazepaw, Cinnamonpaw, and Antpaw. Additionally, he announces that Tawnypelt is resigning from her position as deputy, and that Juniperclaw is taking her place. This is met with hostility from the other Clans, as Juniperclaw was one of the first cats to join Darktail, and many cats question his loyalty. Tigerstar shuts down their criticisms and ShadowClan proudly chants their own sovereignty.
Tigerstar reports that prey runs abundant in ShadowClan, but Sandynose accuses them of crossing SkyClan's border to catch their prey. Tigerstar denies the claim, but Leafstar backs up her warrior. Tigerstar suggests that perhaps SkyClan does not know where the border is, then pivots to explain that his father gave up ShadowClan territory while they were still weak. Bramblestar reminds Tigerstar that it was his own decision to give territory to SkyClan, but the new leader ignores him. The ShadowClan leader offers to let SkyClan keep their territory if they give ShadowClan hunting rights on all of it, but Leafstar refuses to give away her territory.
Matters grow even more tense between the two leaders, and the other leaders offer their opinions, with Harestar thinking that the dispute must be settled. Bramblestar is against more conflict between the Clans. Tigerstar asks the other leaders if they all would be willing to give territory to SkyClan, so that ShadowClan is not the only Clan making a sacrifice. Both Mistystar and Harestar decline, however, stating only they know how to utilize their own lands, and the leaders refuse to get involved between the two clashing Clans.
Bramblestar reminds them of Tree's role as mediator, and Tree agrees to help find a solution. The Gathering promptly ends with Mistystar leading her Clan away. Violetshine expresses her worries to her father, but he is unable to reassure her. Before SkyClan can cross the tree-bridge, Macgyver and Strikestone face off, nearly coming to blows before Leafstar orders her warrior to back away. As ShadowClan leaves, Violetshine fears conflict with ShadowClan and possibly losing her home.
