- Alderheart watches Cloudtail and Molewhisker exit the camp, while beside him, Bramblestar hopes that Tigerstar doesn't overreact when told the news about Puddleshine's treatment. Entering the medicine den, Alderheart is questioned by Jayfeather. The blind tabby tom asks him what the ThunderClan leader had said, and the dark ginger tom snaps back, saying that Bramblestar had scolded him for not asking him about giving Puddleshine deathberries. Right then, Puddleshine whimpers, reminding Alderheart that the ShadowClan medicine cat may die because of his plan. Jayfeather encourages him, stating that Puddleshine remaining alive brings them hope, as he is not dead yet. The older medicine cat states aloud, telling Alderheart that there are ShadowClan cats in the camp.
- Exiting the medicine den, Alderheart spots Tigerstar, Juniperclaw, and Sparrowtail in the clearing. The two leaders greet each other, and Cloudtail informs Bramblestar that Tigerstar came to speak with the former in private. Alderheart stays around the leaders as Tigerstar explains that he was hoping Bramblestar could give up some of ThunderClan land so that SkyClan will not have to fight for their land. The huge tabby tom declines the offer, reminding Tigerstar that he is going behind Leafstar's back, who will take the gesture as a lack of respect. The ShadowClan leader asks if ShadowClan could have their medicine cat back, but Alderheart sheepishly says that they are having trouble curing the infection from the Twoleg thorns.
- Tigerstar barges in the medicine den, yowling that the medicine cat is almost dead. Alderheart explains that they had to use deathberries as a last resort, as nothing else was working. This outrages Tigerstar, who brings up the fact that Jayfeather had lost another ShadowClan life, Flametail's, but Bramblestar stops the ShadowClan leader. Tigerstar suggests that Alderheart and Puddleshine come to ShadowClan, so if the medicine cat is to die, he will die among friends. Alderheart agrees to go, while Tigerstar proposes that if Puddleshine recovers, the ThunderClan medicine cat will be returned. The leader calls Juniperclaw and Sparrowtail to him, and the four of them exit ThunderClan camp.
