The sandy hollow,[2] also known informally as the training hollow,[3] is a hollow surrounded by trees in the forest territories.[2] It is used as a training location for ThunderClan apprentices due to the soft ground.[2][4]
Description[]
- The sandy hollow is located in the forest territory of ThunderClan, a short distance from the ThunderClan camp.[2][5] A trail runs along the edge of the ravine towards the sandy hollow.[1]
- The shallow[6] hollow is lined with bushes[7] and trees, including pine.[5] The area is sheltered from the surrounding trees during the seasons, most notably during leaf-bare.[8] The earth is a mixture of golden[9] and reddish[1] sand[4] and dirt.[3] During the time of the early settlers, a stream ran through the sandy hollow from the the four trees,[10] but it disappeared by the time of Bluestar, remaining only as a stream beyond a rise in the surrounding area.[1] A jutting slab of rock overlooks the hollow.[4]
- The primary use of the sandy hollow is for ThunderClan's warriors and their apprentices to practice their battle moves,[1] due to it being a soft and flat area to train safely.[11] ThunderClan warriors also use the hollow as a meeting place before their apprentice's assessments.[2] Before the battle with BloodClan, ThunderClan initiates a training program for every ThunderClan cat at the sandy hollow.[4]
