Thorn That Grows in Cleft, more commonly known as Thorn, is a brown tabby tom with either amber or green eyes.

When Graystripe and Flipclaw venture to the mountains on their wander, Thorn and Moon confront them. Graystripe notes their pelts are covered in so much mud that they blend in with the rocks, and only their amber and green eyes can be seen. Moon asks who they are and what they want, and Graystripe reveals he is Stormfur's father. In a more friendly way, Thorn exclaims that they must be Clan cats from the lake. Moon welcomes them to the Tribe of Rushing Water, and Thorn explains they are cave-guards, puffing out his chest proudly. Moon leads them up the narrow cleft to their cave with Thorn in the rear. When they arrive at the cave, Thorn takes the lead to scramble on the rocks besides the waterfall.

The next day, Graystripe spots Thorn guarding three prey-hunters carrying an eagle up to the cave, occasionally stopping to keep an eye on the sky. Thorn nods in greeting to Graystripe when they enter the cave, and Graystripe remarks they must've had a great hunt. Thorn cheerfully replies it was the best and the Tribe will eat well that night. When Crest rushes into the cave with news that Flipclaw and Feather were buried by a rockslide, Stoneteller brings Graystripe, Brook, and Thorn to rescue them.
