"You mustn't tell! You have to keep this secret. Tell no cat what's happened, not even Kestrelflight. Whoever did this must think I'm dead. I need time to figure out what to do." |

Chapter description[]
- Frostpaw clings to life, remembering Curlfeather's warning, and conscious of the world around her and fearful of her attacker. She reflects on her vision from Reedwhisker, remembering what had happened before she was attacked. She falls unconscious again while longing for Curlfeather and awakens to the sound of pawsteps, and after a brief moment of panic, she recognizes Whistlepaw. Frostpaw begs her not to tell anyone about her, as she feels desperately unsafe and trusts no cat. Whistlepaw says that Kestrelflight can take care of her, but Frostpaw insists, and Whistlepaw gives in. She leaves to fetch herbs to treat her friend, and Frostpaw remains still, playing dead but prepared to fight. Whistlepaw soon returns and treats Frostpaw's wound, and she asks again to be allowed to tell Kestrelflight, but Frostpaw refuses, begging her to keep the attack a secret until she knows what to do.
