Chapter description[]
- Nightheart waits impatiently to head home, though he feels anxious about saying goodbye to the park cats, and he reflects that he had enjoyed his time there as the park cats offer their goodbyes. They ask the Clan cats to stay with them permanently, but Frostpaw replies that Riverstar has called her home and expresses her gratitude for their help. Waffle and Wasp request to go home with them, wanting to become warriors, and Nightheart and Frostpaw agree to take them. The park cats give them a fish to go, and Rook indicates that it is time for them to leave. They offer licks and purrs as goodbyes, and Lark promises to name her kits Frost and Night to honor Frostpaw and Nightheart.
- Half a moon later, the cats reach the moor, and as Waffle and Wasp lead the way, Nightheart asks Frostpaw if she is certain of her plan to announce the truth to RiverClan all at once. She remains determined to pass on Riverstar's desire for peace and kindness in RiverClan, and Nightheart presses her, asking her to stay with ThunderClan to be safe. The apprentice insists on facing her Clan, even if they do not believe her, and she rejects Nightheart's offer to help for Sunbeam's sake, telling him to encourage her rather than warning her of failure. At WindClan's territory, Nightheart persuades Frostpaw to check on them due to the lack of patrols, and they head to the camp. There, they overhear a few WindClan cats discussing that night's Gathering and the potential for war, and Nightheart and the others hurry to the island.
