Chapter description[]

As they cross the tree-bridge to the island, Nightheart advises them to be quiet so as not to alert the others as they observe the Gathering from a thicket of bushes and trees. Wasp and Waffle are amazed by the large group of powerful cats. Frostpaw and the others watch as Berryheart is exiled and asks for her kits to join her. Nightheart spots Sunbeam in the crowd and longs to rush over to her, but Frostpaw reminds him that they must be cautious. To Nightheart's delight, Sunbeam decides to stay in ThunderClan. As the Gathering ends, Duskfur calls for everyone's attention from the Great Oak. With Frostpaw believed to be dead, Duskfur declares that Podlight is RiverClan's newest medicine cat. Podlight claims that Riverstar appeared to him in a dream, though Frostpaw secretly doubts him since Podlight was Curlfeather's littermate. When Harestar asks if StarClan told him who should be RiverClan's leader, Podlight announces that it shall be Splashtail. Warriors from the other Clans challenge this, as Splashtail is too young and has not mentored an apprentice, but Splashtail vows to restore RiverClan to greatness. Frostpaw is horrified and wonders how she will manage to convince her Clan that their new leader had killed Reedwhisker, but Nightheart resolves that they will find a way.
