"You'll learn everything when you're ready. For now, just listen. You can't think about the past. Or even the present. There isn't time. You must think of the future. You must follow your paws. Help will come, and when it does, you must let them in. I know everything that's happened has undermined your faith in others, but you can rely on this cat. You must trust them." |

Chapter description[]
- Frostpaw dreams of walking alongside a river, feeling energetic with no injuries. She is approached by Riverstar and wonders if she has died, but he assures her otherwise and sympathizes with her struggles. He warns of trouble for RiverClan and says that the situation needs calming before they can find a new leader. Riverstar promises to teach her and tells her she needs the living to help her as well. Her dreams ends and she awakens in the horseplace, realizing that her wound has been closed with Twoleg cobweb. Coriander and Smoky arrive, and Frostpaw confronts Smoky over bringing the Twoleg to her, but he insists that she needed help. Frostpaw notices a fresh wound on her flank, and Smoky explains that it happens to all she-cats that the Twoleg treats. As Smoky leaves to find prey for Frostpaw, Coriander warns her to leave her injury alone or else the Twoleg will give her a collar. Smoky returns with a mouse before leaving again with Coriander so Frostpaw may eat.
- Frostpaw ponders her vision, frustrated with Riverstar's vagueness and confused as to what to do next. She then hears a noise and scents Whistlepaw, who checks on Frostpaw's health, impressed with her recovery. Whistlepaw informs her that a RiverClan patrol had been looking for Frostpaw and that WindClan has found none of her blood. Frostpaw tells her to take some of her fur to WindClan territory to make everyone think she is dead. Wishing to see StarClan again, she asks Whistlepaw to escort her to the Moonpool, but she refuses, as it will arouse Kestrelflight's suspicions As Frostpaw says that she can go alone, Smoky comes back and questions her, having overheard her. He expresses concern about her traveling so far while injured, but Frostpaw insists that she must go. She refuses to let him go, feeling that he is a risk to her security. Frostpaw tells Whistlepaw to let the Clans believe she is dead if she does not return, giving Whistlepaw some of her fur to spread.
- With some last reassurance, Frostpaw departs for the Moonpool, reaching it that night and feeling exhausted. To her annoyance, she finds Alderheart, Squirrelflight, and Bramblestar at the Moonpool, and she hides behind some rocks. Frostpaw falls asleep and wakes into another dream, surrounded by StarClan. She is greeted by Moth Flight and Reedwhisker, and Reedwhisker praises her for her efforts, encouraging her to keep on. Frostpaw despairs over how to fix everything until Riverstar interrupts her; he encourages her, telling her that she needs to choose the next leader of RiverClan, this time with StarClan's help. He tells her that she needs to go on a journey, and after he persists further, Frostpaw finally agrees to try. She asks to see Curlfeather, but he dodges it, instead telling her that another cat will accompany her on her journey and that she must focus on the future and trust in her soon-to-be companion. As the vision fades, he says that Frostpaw must leave by dawn and follow the sunrise, and she awakens. With the ThunderClan cats still present, Frostpaw settles to rest, reflecting on her dream and thinking that she will save RiverClan.
