- Windstar, Thunderstar, Riverstar, Skystar, and Thunderstar are all looking down at Frostpaw from StarClan.
- Windstar is concerned, as Frostpaw is dying. Riverstar tells her that this had to happen.
- Thunderstar tells Riverstar that this is not Frostpaw's destiny, and that she was never meant to be a medicine cat.
- Riverstar says that things have changed, and that Frostpaw is strong, and will make a good messenger. He also states that RiverClan is his Clan, and that he chooses Frostpaw because he believes in her.

- Frostpaw's point of view.
- Frostpaw wakes up, feeling blood all over her fur as she tries to figure out what she is doing.
- She remembers the vision she had about Reedwhisker, which was her in the body of another cat killing the former RiverClan deputy.
- She recalls that she told Splashtail about her vision and her plan to ask Whistlepaw, WindClan's current medicine cat apprentice, about it.
- Upon hearing pawsteps around her, Frostpaw awaits her attacker to finish her off, but instead the cat starts helping Frostpaw.
- Frostpaw recognizes her helper as Whistlepaw, who continually offers to fetch Kestrelflight, the senior and more-experienced WindClan medicine cat.
- Frostpaw vehemently refuses help as to limit involvement from more cats.
- After back-and-forth argument, Whistlepaw agrees to not tell her mentor as she herself will minimally do her best with the experience she has.
- Whistlepaw comes back with the necessary herbs, and after letting the medicine cat treat her, Frostpaw leaves, making sure Whistlepaw doesn't tell any other cat that he has seen her.
