Chapter description[]

Gray Wing observes the stars as he climbs the slope to the top of the hollow. Rainswept Flower asks the tom where he's headed, so he replies that sleeping in the open seems appealing. Gray Wing realizes that he hadn't lied to the she-cat, but he had hidden the fact that he didn't want every cat in the hollow to see him quivering in pain. The gray tom finds a spot that seems good, so he lays down as his mind races with thoughts about Thunder and Clear Sky. Gray Wing hopes that Thunder will be okay, while he recalls Clear Sky's tone when the leader insulted Jagged Peak.
Gray Wing tastes the scent of another cat as Turtle Tail pops out, surprising him. The she-cat wants to learn about what happened in the forest, so he notes about the fire. The white tortoiseshell she-cat guesses that Gray Wing is aching, so she helps him lick his paws. The dark gray tom asks where Turtle Tail's kits are, and she replies that Rainswept Flower and Jagged Peak are looking over them in her den. She adds that she wanted to have some time alone with Gray Wing. The tom states that he is glad to be of help.
As Turtle Tail sleepily purrs, Gray Wing notes how he doesn't want to be alone anymore, realizing that the white tortoiseshell she-cat is good-hearted, while being smart and resourceful. After a while passes and neither of them fall asleep, Turtle Tail guesses that he is thinking about Thunder. The she-cat reminds him that he could not have done anything about Thunder wanting to be with his father.
As Gray Wing wakes up, he hears friendly voices around him. Rainswept Flower teases that the pair look so cozy curled up together, while Sparrow Fur asks if the tom is coming to live with them. The three kits pounce on Turtle Tail and Gray Wing as Rainswept Flower leaves, commenting that their paws look full. Gray Wing concludes that maybe he and Turtle Tail belong together.
