- Gray Wing and Turtle Tail reach the bottom of the hollow to find Hawk Swoop, Dappled Pelt, Cloud Spots, and Rainswept Flower all standing in front of Tall Shadow. The black she-cat is teaching them how to hunt in the forest, telling them that they need more power in their hind legs. Gray Wing sees a big piece of bark propped up against a rock, Rainswept Flower gets into position, and flies toward it, landing a strong kick on the bark, sending scraps everywhere. Tall Shadow comments it's better, and that Cloud Spots will try next. Gray Wing then notices Jagged Peak crouching a few tail-lengths away. Shivers of compassion ran through Gray Wing, as he realizes what a struggle life has been for Jagged Peak, especially ever since Clear Sky had driven him away from his camp.
