Chapter description[]
- Mittens and Rascal yowl for Fierce early the next morning with news that the Twolegs have brought more traps, much larger than the ones they've previously closed. Fierce wonders if they have to leave the gathering place due to all the Twolegs and asks Tigerheart about his plan to convince Fog to help them chase away the foxes. Tigerheart admits that Fog declined to help but agreed to lead her group home if the foxes are driven away. Mittens wonders if they can't just lure Fog and her cats to the traps to get rid of them, but Tigerheart devises a plan to lure the foxes into the traps instead. Fierce, Rascal, Mittens, and Cobweb agree to the risky plan. Tigerheart heads to Fog's group to try to convince Tuna to show him their old camp with the foxes. Growler confronts Tigerheart for snooping around, but Tuna agrees to go with Tigerheart to show him their old camp.
- The next morning, Tigerheart, Fierce, Cobweb, and Ant travel to Fog's old camp when Tuna arrives to help. While they wait for the foxes to return from scavenging, the group reviews the plan again. When Ant expresses doubts, Fierce insists they will defend their home, and the splotchy brown-and-black tom remarks she sounds like Tigerheart. Tuna wonders if warriors aren't used to change since they insist on defending the same territory, but their conversation ends when the foxes return. Fierce and Tigerheart separate the pack of five foxes by angrily screeching, and they lure the foxes towards the gathering place. The cats easily navigate the sharp alley corners while the foxes clumsily struggle to keep up. When they reach the gathering place, Pipsqueak, Rascal, Mittens, and other guardian cats take over and lure the foxes into the large traps. As Tigerheart struggles to regain his breath from the chase, Fog arrives and is confused by all the commotion. With the foxes gone, Tigerheart presses for Fog to keep her end of the agreement. The gray she-cat agrees, and Fierce reiterates that the guardian cats will defend their borders from now on.
